Day 1: Salento - Alto de la Linea - La Carbonera - Toche

Alto de la Linea

You will enjoy a hike at the highest point of the route, more than 3,400 metres above sea level, where you will immerse yourself in the magic of the fog forest ecosystem. Throughout the tour, you will have the opportunity to admire native orchid species in their natural habitat. Before arriving at this stunning destination, we will make two fascinating stops: the Mirador del Quindío, from where you can take in panoramic views of the region, and the Pine Forest, a quiet and beautiful environment.

La Carbonera

You will discover the world’s largest majestic wax palm forest, a fascinating place where you will walk among gigantic specimens that exceed 60 metres in height. You will relive the history of the great explorers who travelled these paths, such as Alexander Von Humboldt, Aimé Bonpland and José Celestino Mutis, who passed by during their famous botanical expedition. In addition, you can enjoy the imposing La Leona Waterfall, a true natural spectacle. You will enjoy a delicious lunch in a typical rural restaurant, where you will also have the opportunity to take a short horseback ride on the way to the restaurant.

Toche

You will know Toche; a small town located in the heart of the mountains of the canyon of the Tochecito River, where you breathe the essence of rurality and tranquility that define these places away from the bustle of the city. You will discover the Toche Rural Cemetery and the 200-year-old Bolivarian road where Simon Bolivar passed on his way to Salento. Its colourful houses and peasant lifestyle invite you to walk its streets in a short city tour and photo workshop.

The next day will be an adventure full of magic and natural beauty! You will start with a delicious typical rural breakfast in the hotel, full of fresh and authentic flavours. Afterwards, you can enjoy a relaxing horseback ride of approximately 20 minutes, walking a path surrounded by lush nature, where the landscape will captivate you at every step. During the tour, you will discover impressive formations of volcanic stalagmites and stalactites, a geological wonder that you will not fail to admire. Finally, a jeep will pick us up to continue our journey to the majestic Cerro Machín Volcano, a day full of excitement and unrivalled scenery!

It is an active volcano with a diameter approximately 2.4 km, which houses three domes with elevations of close to 2,800 metres above sea level. In your environment, You will find vast meadows, paths of Horseshoe, various paths, forests Primary and secondary schools, you will also live a rural experience in the company of local farmers and farm animals. You’ll enjoy comforting panela water accompanied by fresh cheese, grown directly on site! This traditional flavour, prepared with fresh and local ingredients, will transport you to the essence of the region. Undoubtedly, it is a yet-to-be-discovered tourist attraction, combining the best of culture and nature in one sip and bite.

Toche

Once in Toche you will enjoy a delicious typical lunch, prepared with fresh and local ingredients that will make you taste the best of the region. After a well-earned break, you can take a relaxing walk through the picturesque village, with its streets full of history and charm. We will continue our tour to Cajamarca, making strategic stops every 30 minutes in spectacular places along the way, where you can enjoy breathtaking views and learn more about the natural beauty that surrounds us.

Cajamarca Tolima

We will make a stop at Alto de la Cuchilla, an impressive natural viewpoint! At the top of the mountain, we will stop for an environmental interpretation and enjoy spectacular views that will leave you breathless. From this privileged point, you can admire the majestic Toche River Canyon, the picturesque town centre of Toche, and the imposing Machín Volcano. Towards the other side, the panorama extends to the Bermillon River Canyon, Cajamarca, Anaime and the famous La Linea road. A true gift for the senses, surrounded by rural beauty in every corner.

Salento - Quindio
