On this tour, you will visit colonial cities, an active volcano (the most active in Central America), a lagoon inside a volcano, a lake formed over time inside a volcanic crater, a beautiful indigenous market, hike through indigenous mountains, have lunch with a local family, hike into the cloud forest to see the national bird of Guatemala.

Today very early in the morning (4 a.m.) you will start the last part of the climb, to the top of the summit crater of the Acatenango volcano to see the horizon and take the last photos. Return to base camp for breakfast and start the descent and departure to Antigua Guatemala.

The Quetzal Biotope is located in the municipality of Purulhá, in Baja Verapaz. It has an area of 1,044 hectares and was officially established as a protected area on June 2, 1976, by founder Mario Dary Rivera, with the main objective of protecting the quetzal and its habitat, the cloud forest.

Semuc Champey, which means “River hides under the stones”, is a natural enclave located in the Guatemalan municipality of Lanquín (12 km approx. south of the urban centre of Lanquín), in the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. In the middle of a thick tropical forest, there is a natural limestone bridge about 300 metres long through which the Cahabón River flows, and in its surroundings, there are a large number of pools of 1 to 3 m deep, whose turquoise green or jade colour changes throughout the year varying with the weather, the sun and other natural factors. At the end you can observe the Cahabón River as it enters a limestone cavern, a very dangerous area to approach inside the river because of the force of the water, only allowed to observe from a distance this natural geographic phenomenon.

The Candelaria Caves, located in the department of Alta Verapaz, constitute a national park. It consists of a complex of caves considered the spiritual cradle of the Mayan civilisation of the region. For them, navigating through the subway river led the souls to Xibalbá in search of immortality.
This site is surrounded by hills. In addition, there are more than 8 caves. Each one has different characteristics such as its formation and size.
In these caves, you can navigate through more than 2 kilometres of subway river and swim in the crystalline water pools covered by natural rock.

Cráter Azul is one of the water sources of the La Pasión River, located in the municipality of Sayaxché, in the department of Petén. It also feeds the San Teodoro Stream, in Las Cruces, in the same department.
This lagoon is part of a beautiful place, where visitors can swim in its crystalline waters. Also, the vegetation at the bottom is visible thanks to the clarity of the water and creates a beautiful underwater garden. It has a depth in the centre of 5 to 7 metres approximately, depending on the time of year.
The state of conservation of the place is one of the biggest attractions for tourists. In addition, its name comes from its crater shape and the intense blue colour of the water.

Tikal National Park

Tikal (meaning “place of voices”) is one of the largest archaeological sites and urban centers of the Mayan civilisation. It is located in the municipality of Flores, in the department of Petén, in the current territory of the Republic of Guatemala. It is part of the Tikal National Park, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. According to the glyphs at the site, its Mayan name would have been Yax Mutul.

Today in the morning you will be picked up at your hotel to board the boat that will take you to visit places of interest in this beautiful lake.
You will visit: the animal sanctuary, ARCAS, which is a non-profit Guatemalan Civil Association formed in 1989 by a group of Guatemalan citizens who became concerned when they saw their precious cultural heritage - especially their wildlife - rapidly disappearing before their eyes.
You will also visit the viewpoint of King Canek, which is characterised by its location in the middle of the Petén jungle and its panoramic view. From the top of this viewpoint, it is possible to observe Lake Petén Itzá and the beautiful Flores Island. Departure to Yaxha.

The archaeological site of Yaxhá, also known as “Tierras Bajas Centrales”, is located in the department of Petén, near the lake of the same name. It was discovered in 1904 by explorer Teobert Maler, after a trip to describe the area.
Archaeologists have described the settlement as a series of artificial levelings that find their highest point in the east end and form one of the “best examples of Mayan urbanism”, characterised by more than 500 buildings in groups of different levels that are connected through five causeways and different paved roads.
