What you can expect

This half-day trip of hiking and paddling on the Wailua River is a must-do activity while on Kauai. With an easy-going voyage in a tandem kayak and a moderate hike to a beautiful waterfall, you can truly appreciate the diversity and stunning beauty of the island, an outdoor enthusiast's paradise.

Enjoy the serene surroundings of the Wailua River as you paddle in a tandem kayak. Your local guides share the rich Hawaiian history and legends of the Wailua River Valley while serenading you with a ukulele or sharing local music. After paddling up the river’s North Fork, begin your moderate 2-mile (3-km) hike through a tropical rainforest.

Make your way along the muddy trail and admire the views of the sacred valley lined with scenic waterways, Hawaiian ruins, and native flora and fauna. Then get an opportunity to swim and eat lunch at the beautiful 120-foot (36-m) Uluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls. After enjoying the view at Secret Falls, this eco-adventure concludes.

Excellent guides, excellent kayak up the river, excellent hike. 100% worth it. I do believe the difficulty is overstated, anyone without physical issues in low to moderate shape can complete the trip

Last minute cancellation without advanced notice. Refund has to be processed through Expedia - takes long and comborsome. No adjustment to recompense for the cancellation - could have done at least guided hiking, if not kayaking.

Trip was canceled without advanced warning. Vendor refused to process refund - have to deal with Expedia, refund is delayed. Not cool. Advanced wind conditions may have affected the kayaking part of the tour, but they could have offered other options - hiking etc. Last minute cancellation in the morning of the trip without any kind recompense.

This experience was not only a little muddy it was a lot muddy. It was not our guides fault that it was muddy however, everyone was slipping and sliding and falling. Additionally, we felt as though our guide was leaving us behind. Frequently, he was more than 100 yards ahead of us walking quickly and playing his ukulele while we were slipping and sliding on the mud. In addition, while kayaking many times the guide was nowhere to be seen. The guide did not keep our group together while hiking, or kayaking, despite challenging conditions on the trail and river. This is not an activity I would do again.

I liked kayaking through the river and hiking to the secret falls. Kayaking was bit hard since it was my first time, but over all the scenery and forest going to the falls was experience you must have in Kauai. Staff was friendly and there was no complications to the trip.
