Begin your guided hike through the Fagradalsfjall eruption zone, where Iceland’s most recent volcanic activity has transformed the terrain. Hike across new lava formations, view volcanic craters, and explore steaming ground shaped by the 2021–2025 eruptions. The trail covers approximately 8 km return (around 5 miles), with a moderate 300-meter (984 ft) elevation gain. Depending on group pace, the hike takes 3–4 hours total. We provide walking poles, and in winter, crampons for icy sections. ⚠️ Please note: A volcanic eruption is a natural phenomenon. Therefore, the activity of the eruption can change quickly, and the view of hot glowing lava can not be guaranteed. ⚠️ Routes for safety and comfort may be modified based on conditions, pace, and weather.
