A tour that cannot be missed is the one to the archaeological site of Apollonia, the ancient city founded by Corinthian Greek colonists and then become a fundamental port hub also for the Roman Empire. The ruins of the important Hellenic city-state are part of one of the best preserved archaeological parks in all of Europe. The Monastery of Ardenica is one of the most visited historical and religious monuments in the whole country. This monastery today is not only a cult monument where several monks continue to take refuge. In fact, inside there are the Church of Santa Maria, the chapel of San Triadhe, the mill and the stables for animals.
Departure from Tirana for Apollonia. Arrival and guided tour of the archaeological site. Apollonia was founded in 588 BC. The city became rich thanks to trade and the port which could hold up to about 100 ships. It was considered one of the largest and most prosperous cities among those with the name dedicated to the God of the Sun, until an earthquake destroyed almost the entire city and the port, thus slowly giving way to abandoning the city. The tour continues with a visit to the Monastery of Ardenica, which became famous for being the place where the wedding of the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skenderbeu was celebrated with Donika Arianiti on April 21, 1451.
