Soak up one of the most traditional villages on the island, rich in history and beauty. Afionas is one of the oldest settlements on Corfu and is believed to have been named after the local grape variety. Archaeological evidence suggests that the village was first inhabited in the 6th century BC. Take a stroll through the stone paths (kadounia) of Afionas, where bougainvillea and jasmine cascade over whitewashed walls, and the air is filled with the briny scent of the sea. Snap a photo of the old mansions, which have stood the test of time, and visit the church of Agios Ioannis Lampataro, built in 1636. Soak up the magic of the sunset as you sit on a bench and watch the sun sink below the Ionian Sea. The sky is ablaze with colour, from fiery reds and oranges to gentle pinks and purples.
