What you can expect

The mangrove forest is one of the most vital and astounding ecosystems in the world. Damas Island, located just 10 minutes from Manuel Antonio is currently one of the most important remaining mangroves in Costa Rica. Covering thousands of acres of protected forest, this amazing biodiversity is home to a large number of birds, reptiles, mammals, and insects.

Our experienced guides will take you on an unforgettable boat tour through the channels of the mangrove forest, far away from civilisation. You can discover an abundance of species native to the area such as white-faced monkeys, anteaters, boas, iguanas, birds and thousands of colourful crabs.

Our boats have the capacity to hold 12 passengers and are fully equipped for your comfort and security.

Great tour! I saw a lot of animals including owls, lizards, sloth, raccoon, and snakes! The tour included pickup and lunch so this is a great value.

Hernando was an excellent tour guide and had extensive knowledge of the area. He found many reptiles-Including a cayman, birds, and flowers. The boat drivers were excellent and made sure everyone could see the animals. Hernando took an excellent video which he shared with us. We then had a wonderful lunch before they transported us to our accommodations.

Although we enjoyed the actual tour of the mangroves, we did not enjoy the journey too and from it. We were picked up in a older, very cramped mini bus with a low roof and poor visibility out of the tiny windows. That together with the windy roads and stops to pick up other passengers on the 45 minute journey meant some of our party felt really nauseous by the time we arrived at the boat dock which spoilt it somewhat. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and spotted bats, a baby crocodile and a tree boa amongst other wildlife. The mangrove canal is beautiful and peaceful. We felt the included meal was unnecessary as we arrived at the cafe at around 4pm. For us it is too late for lunch and too early for dinner. We would have preferred to have spend longer on the boat or wildlife watching.
