What you can expect

Depart from Nagoya to head to your stop, Gujo Hachiman. Located in the centre of Japan in Gifu Prefecture, the streets of Gujo Hachiman have retained an atmosphere unchanged since the Edo period.

See the rows of old houses that have been selected as a group of important traditional buildings by the national government. Explore the town known for its waterway that runs past the eaves of the houses.

Your second tour stop is Hida Takayama, a castle town from the Edo period. Enjoy local gourmet food and shopping while strolling through the old streets, including traditional Hida handicraft stores and sweet shops.

The third and final stop of your tour is the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama Gassho-Zukuri. These villages are known for their gassho-zukuri (steep thatched-roofed) houses of various sizes.

Wang, the tour guide was amazing!!! he is effectively trilingual. he is also very laid back and chilled out. Very clear instructions were given. Everyone on the tour was disciplined in sticking to the time to get back to the bus each time. I would have appreciated having been updated about the temperature before the trip to Shiragawago. I was not expecting it to be 3 Degrees. Another heads-up I would have appreciated is that we had to pay to see the houses in Shiragawago - It was about 300-400 yen for each house.

The tour guide, Wang Jie is very charming and friendly. He had provided such a wonderful experience throughout the trip. It seems like the guide can explain more about the spots. The tour may be better in either one language - it seemed the guide wasn't able to explain much in both languages. They can also send the map of the spots in advance which would be more effective.

I found this tour online and made a booking as it was really hard to book a tour available in English. I read some very negative comments here and lowkey was worried but I really wanted to go to Shirakawago so I just gave it a go. First of all, our guide was Wong and I MUST talk about her first, if the company’s owner is reading this, you need to give this woman a huge pay rise and some good treatment, she’s a machine I have been working in the tourism/hospo industry for years and she was single handily looking after 50+ people and I saw some people complaining about not understanding their English, but Wong spoke and understood English VERY well and she also spoke in Mandarin and Japanese. It’s more like transportation which makes your life much easier than organizing them yourself, couch is comfy and driver was great. Wong gives you some good suggestions and brief behind stories don’t expect a full tour, however I was 100% satisfied with this tour.
