What you can expect

Submerged underwater in a cage off the shores of Dyer Island, come face-to-face with one of nature's most awe-inspiring creatures: the great white shark. This cage-diving experience gets you up-close and personal with the tremendous fish, allowing you to safely observe it in its natural habitat.

In the morning, head east from Cape Town to the fishing hamlet of Gansbaai, which has become known for its dense population of great white sharks nearby. After a light breakfast to fuel you up, hop aboard a boat and travel towards Dyer Island. Your boat drifts through Shark Alley, a channel between Geyser Rock and Dyer Island known to be the best spot for great white shark cage diving in the world. Learn about the sharks, which are the world's largest predatory fish, and about the many misconceptions surrounding them.

Either choose to stay onboard and watch the sharks from the deck, or suit up and climb into a sturdy cage that's lowered into the sea. You're soon face-to-face with the enormous and magnificent sharks, which can reach over 20 feet (6 m) in length. Underwater, watch as the great white sharks circle the cage and let their fins breach the surface in a rare chance to see them in their natural environment. Continue observing the amazing creatures before returning to the surface and heading back towards shore.
