Karambagala

Step back in time at the Karambagala Forest Retreat, nestled in the Suriyawewa Divisional Secretariat. This ancient site is believed to be the Bilivana Vihara mentioned in inscriptions from the reign of King Sri Meghavanna (303-331 AD). The temple, also known as Karandulena due to its resemblance to a relic casket from afar, features caves with Brahmi inscriptions. Discover remnants of ancient art painted in red on a layer of mortar, believed to be linked to a Thera named Cittagutta who resided here for sixty years.
