After a short ride from Amsterdam to the bulbflower area around Lisse, we start your tour by making a scenic ride in this area. Depending upon the season you see a landscape with colourful bulbflower carpets in almost any colour you can imagine. We try to find a spot where we can stop to make some pictures.

Then we continue to the true highlight of this tour, the park Keukenhof. Once a mere kitchen garden filled with vegetables and herbs, the Keukenhof - smack dab in the middle of South Holland’s tulip region - now has the distinction of being the world’s largest flower garden, hosting some 800,000 visitors per year. This guided tour will take you through the 15 kilometres of footpaths and 32 hectares of gardens, where millions of bulbs are planted each year. Tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other spring bulbs of a variety of vibrant colours carpet the grounds. Stroll through the English landscape garden, the Japanese country garden, and the historical garden. Take in the flower sculpture, based on an annual theme.

The windmill village Zaanse Schans is an open air museum that houses a collection of working windmills, wooden houses, barns and shops dating back to the 18th and 19th Century. All these buildings were brought here from 1961 on, bringing back to life this most prosperous period of the Zaan region.

Our tour guide was great - can't remember her name, but she told us to remember Daffodills! I would have enjoyed more time at the windmill farm and cut out the cheese and clog making - especially because there was a cheese tasting at one of the shops in the windmill farm.

The guide was very friendly and had a lot of information. Make sure to eat something before you go on the tour. There is food available, but there is a LOT to see and you may miss out on a few things if you are on a casual walk.

If you have the chance, you need to go to the Keukenhof flower festival. Words can’t describe just how beautiful it is. I also enjoyed learning about how wooden shoes are made. The time at each location was perfect.

The cruise ride e-voucher should be a physical voucher. It caused problems when trying to reserve a time. I had to go through a lit of hassle before I was able to board the cruise.

We struggled with the guide. Our English tour turned into an English/ Spanish tour. Totally fine. However we struggled to understand the guide in English and my husband said the Spanish wasn’t much better. Our guide also didn’t seem to know much about all of the spots she would talk about or point out. Ending sentences have finished with “and yeah”. My kids lost interest and put their headphones on, which was a first on our 10 day trip. We also felt the length of the tour was too long.
