Mount Kazbegi, measuring in at 5,033 metres above sea level, is rich with tales of Georgian folklore and spectacular views over the surrounding landscape. Begin your day early with pick-up at your hotel in Tbilisi, and as you travel along the Georgian Military Highway from Tbilisi, stop in at the 16th-century Ananuri Fortress, located by the Aragvi River. Admire its high, turreted stone walls, which protect two churches, a watch tower, a spring and a reservoir, and the beautifully carved facade adorned with animal, floral and Celtic style patterns.
Continue the tour to the Cross Pass, from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the mountains and the beautiful Aragvi River gorge, and then make your way to the village of Stepantsminda, located at the foot of Kazbegi mountain. On the slopes of the mountain, discover the ancient 12th-century Gergeti Trinity church and the famous 5th-century cave of Bethlehem.
Before returning home to Tbilisi, pay a visit to the Dariali Gorge, running along the border to Russia, and the beautiful castle that lies there.
