Know before you book

  • Tours depart between 9.00 to 09.15 (AM) every Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays only. You will arrange your exact tour departure time directly with the local tour operator after booking.

What you can expect

After picking you up from the hotel, the tour will start from Shatti Al-Qurum (next to Intercontinental Hotel). Forts and castles are Oman’s most striking cultural landmarks and together with its towers and city walls, have historically been used as defensive look-out points. It is estimated that there are over 500 forts, castles and towers in Oman.

Our first stop will be the charming ancestral village of Birkat Al Maws at the bottom of the green mountain, Jebel Akhdar. We will then head to visit the beautiful Nizwa centre with its Fort ( outside visit ) and its massive circular cannon tower, making it one of the most impressive forts in Oman. We will walk through the traditional Nizwa Souq then have lunch in a local restaurant.

After lunch we will proceed to the Jabreen Fort.The Jabrin Castle, built in 17th century, is one of the finest of its kind. Its magnificent plasterwork, the carved doors and the painted wooden beams of the ceilings makes this castle amazingly different .After we visit the Jabrin castle, we will drive towards the Jebel Shams one of the most famous mountains in Oman, passing one of the oldest small towns of Oman Bahla with its fort ( outside visit ) , before we reach back Nizwa city centre, from where we will drive smoothly to Muscat after a long day !

Tour will end in Avenue Mall & then we'll transfer you back to your hotel.

Left an hour late to start the tour and then was rushed through sites. The tour guide was nice, but he didn't manage time well, for example he left us in a room for lunch and then didn't check to see when we were finished eating. We waited until a member of the group went to go find him to let him know we were finished. We arrived at the Jabreen Castle 30 minutes before it closed so didn't have enough time to really explore it -- the castle is amazing! The driver also drove very fast -- was scaring at times how close he was driving to other cars, frequently over the speed limit. It took more than an hour and a half to be dropped off at our hotel after the tour (way too long!). Overall, Oman is a beautiful, amazingly clean country and the people are very nice.

This is not worth the price at all! They don’t even include tickets to nizwa fort, which is the highlight of the tour. No stop at green mountain and no guided tour anywhere. Basically just a taxi service. The jabreen castle was nice, but not worth the trip alone.

Fort of Nizwa was good. Tour Guide did not explain much. Audio listening was not good because half way through changed the language and also most of the time just music. Food was not that great. Apart from that we had a good time.

We had the possibility to see different sites on a single day, which is the main reason why I would recommend this trip. Explanation is given through an audio system, but the computer voice sometimes malfunctioned (some words were difficult to understand because they got mixed up). We weren't really satisfied about the lunch. We are vegetarians, and it was very difficult to explain that at the restaurant. Even though they also served Indian food which has a lot of vegetarian and vegan options, it seemed as if it was the first time they ever encountered a person who doesn't eat meat, fish or poultry. In the end, we only got a quite dry biryani even though the other members of our group got the same biryani accompanied with a selection of meat. On the menu there was quite a number of vegetarian Indian dishes (curries and paneer) but they didn't want to serve that to us. So we ended up getting less for the same price. Furthermore, the restaurant wasn't a nice place.

Worth going for the sights alone, but the guide didn’t speak much English and just ‘dropped’ us in a restaurant for lunch, with no instructions as to what what we could order/what was included for the tour. Also his ‘tailgating’ driving behaviour got rather scary on a few occasions.

Our guide, Zaher, was the highlight for us. He was very kind and calm and patient with the group and made the trip very enjoyable. We learned a lot from him about the Omani history and culture. This tour is great for those who want to experience inland Oman and its traditions. Nizwa souq and the halwa and dates tasting were great, as was the Jabreen Castle and the drive through the mountains.
