What you can expect

Immerse yourself in American history and heritage on this overnight tour. Visit sites from the country's early years in Philadelphia, tour monuments and memorials in the nation's capital, and step back in time to experience the lifestyle of the Amish in the Pennsylvania countryside.

Day 1 Leave Manhattan behind and cross through New Jersey on your way to the City of Brotherly Love. Visit landmarks from the Revolutionary War and Philadelphia's time as the capital of the United States. Stand before the Liberty Bell, walk through Congress Hall, and stroll by the centuries-old homes of Elfreth's Alley.

The trappings of modern life fade away as you enter Lancaster County, the heart of Amish farming country. Go for a buggy ride, shop for handcrafted wares, and spend some time learning about life without present-day amenities. This community survives and thrives with no electricity, no running water, no TV, and—wait for it—no Internet. Afterwards, return to urban civilisation at your D.C. hotel.

Day 2 Spend a full day absorbing the sights of Washington D.C., beginning with a morning visit to Arlington National Cemetery. Check out the government buildings on Capitol Hill. Admire the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue on your way to the monuments of the National Mall. Walk among the Lincoln, Washington,Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Korea, and Vietnam memorials before your early evening return to New York.
