Peschici is a charming seaside village in Gargano, in the north of Puglia. This guided tour will take you to one of the most beautiful resorts in the entire region, starting from the Porta del Ponte and entering the historic centre. Within the city centre you will discover palaces and churches with different architectural styles, which are the result of different historical periods and conquests.
During the tour you will visit the church of Sant'Elia Profeta (the patron saint of Peschici), which is built with large blocks of marble stones from the local quarries, and has an imposing bell tower. The tour then continues towards the castle, the first structure built in the current historical centre. The castle was built on the remains of a Greek stronghold by the Normans, who arrived in this land in around the year 1000.
Over the years the castle has been remodeled, but continues to rise impressively close to the rocky ridge and dominate the sea. Over time it has been possible to recover several works of art, jewellery, old work tools, and clothes, which can be reviewed in the permanent exhibition (the museum of torture). Here you will find a total of 60 pieces, which represent periods ranging from the Middle Ages through to the Renaissance.
