New World Museum (Musee du Nouveau-Monde) (Pass by)
The New World Museum is a museum located in La Rochelle, Charente-Maritime, housed in the Hôtel de Fleuriau.
Dedicated to the relations between La Rochelle and the Americas then called "New World", it is the first museum to address the slave trade past of a French port and to exhibit elements linked to the slave trade and slavery in the colonies. Caribbean.

Fontaine du Pilori

It is located on a small square at the corner of rue du Minage and rue du Cordouan.
Originally, the fountain was called "Fontaine du Puits Lori" and was at the bottom of a huge circular excavation six metres (20 feet) in diameter, into which one had to descend by one of the two shaped stairs. horseshoe, difficult and dangerous access, especially in winter.

The Diocese of La Rochelle (Diocese of La Rochelle and Saintes from 1852) was created in 1648 but the first stone of the new cathedral was not laid until 1742, by which time the architect who drew up the plans, Jacques Gabriel, was dead; the work was supervised, from a distance, by his son Ange-Jacques Gabriel.
