This monument celebrates the Age of Discovery and pays homage to the many explorers, navigators, and influential figures who played a pivotal role in Portugal's maritime history during the 15th and 16th centuries.

The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, or Jerónimos Monastery, is a stunning example of Manueline architecture located in the Belém district of Lisbon, Portugal. Built in the late 15th century, the monastery commemorates Vasco da Gama’s successful voyage to India and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its ornate façade features intricate carvings and maritime motifs, reflecting the nation’s rich seafaring history. Inside, we are able to admire the soaring ceilings of the church, and visit the tomb of Vasco da Gama, which adds to the site's historical significance. Just a short walk from the monastery, visitors can indulge in the famous pastéis de Belém, delicious custard tarts that are a beloved Portuguese treat. These tarts, with their flaky pastry and creamy filling, are a culinary tradition that dates back to the 19th century. The original recipe is a closely guarded secret, and the pastéis are made fresh daily at the Antiga Confeitaria de Belém, attracting locals and tourists alike.
