Enjoy a fun day at Lake Rahajärvi, just ten minutes north of Ivalo village, where you'll learn the basics of traditional winter fishing and indulge in a delicious meal!

Our expert guides will teach you authentic Lappish ice fishing techniques, which include:

Activity itinerary

Meeting at Xwander Nordic: Please arrive by 9:45 at the latest (contact us about transfer options from Saariselkä). The total duration of the trip is approximately five hours. We return to the shop between 15 - 16:00. We will gear you up for the Arctic fishing adventure at Xwander Nordic. We will also provide you with overalls and boots if needed. Ice Fishing: Experience ice drilling and fishing in the traditional Arctic style. Learn the techniques used by the locals to catch fish even in the coldest temperatures. Winter Nets: Next we will check the submerged nets and discover the species native to Lapland, including White Fish, Pike, Perch or Burbot. A hands-on experience that brings you closer to the Arctic marine life. Fish Preparation: Participate in preparing the catch while receiving an informative biology lesson about the local fish species. Making Delicious Fish Soup: Conclude the day by learning how to make a traditional Arctic fish soup in a Lappish Tipi Tent. Enjoy the warm, flavourful dish made from the fresh catch of the day! Extras & Option: Add a refreshing tent sauna/ ice swimming experience to your fishing adventure!
