What you can expect

The via ferrata, which means “railway” in Italian, is a protected climbing route that allows people with little or no climbing experience to traverse vertical or near-vertical terrain. It involves a series of metal rungs, cables, ladders and bridges that are fixed to the rock face, providing climbers with secure anchor points and a safety system.
Climbing a via ferrata requires the use of specific equipment, including a helmet, a harness and a via ferrata lanyard or a set of carabiners.
The one in Castelo de Vide is 250 metres long, with a 30-metre area of negative gradient progression (loved and hated - but where the best photos are taken).
Overall, via ferratas are a fantastic way for outdoor enthusiasts to explore mountainous terrain and challenge themselves while enjoying the beauty of nature in a safe environment.
