This is a beautiful national trust owned country house hotel, with lovely comfortable rooms, gorgeous gardens, a fantastic restaurant, and wonderful staff, providing friendly & attentive service. It’s also really handy for the York city centre by taxi (around £10 each way with the Drive app) and, if you’re going for the races, the racecourse is actually walkable from the hotel. It has to be acknowledged that Middlethorpe Hall is a little on the expensive side, but it is worth every penny. By the way, a great restaurant tip for the city centre is Rustique - a brilliant French bistro.
If you loved the sadly gone Sharrow Bay, in its heyday, as I did, then Middlethorpe Hall lives up to that. We had plans in York for our first night, but on our second night we ate in the hotel’s restaurant, and the food is simply amazing. I don’t think they have a Michelin star - not that I checked - but they certainly deserve one. Middlethorpe Hall has to be the quintessential country house hotel experience in Britain today, and we will definitely be returning. Thank you to all the staff, for making our stay so delightful.
