Canal View Room
The staff was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. We opted to include breakfast in the mornings which was a typical European style with a choice of eggs cooked to order which was refreshing since most are kept warm in a banquet server. The coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice were a nice touch as well. They also provide a coffee maker in the lounge area that was nice after a day of sightseeing. The hotel itself was very conveniently located at a tram stop. The street noise is barely heard with the windows closed. The hotel is made up of a couple of different buildings put together so even though there is an elevator there were still a few small stairs that we needed to traverse with suitcases. We were in room 208, which is a canal view room. My only real complaint about this hotel is that the canal is partially blocked right now by floating work spaces for construction and renovation of the new hotel Nextdoor. It would have really gone a long way with us if the hotel would have contacted us ahead of time to let us know of this. It was such a disappointment when we arrived. I think it will be a while before it is finished so just giving you a heads up!

Amazing location! Walkable to everything and located in a great neighbourhood. Hotel is older but has some great history and is well maintained. It is basic with no frills but had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I would recommend staying here.

This hotel has an excellent location, the staff was helpful, the beds comfortable, the room and bathroom very spacious, and the beds comfortable. What else can you ask? Even though it is close to the hustle and bustle of the old area, it is not inside the boisterous area and the rooms were quiet. Highly recommend it!

This hotel is old school but with some class. Nothing is overly fancy but it works. The location is ideal, right along a canal with numerous restaurants and bars on the same street and block. Tram stop is right out the door. The breakfast doesn’t start until 7 and we had to head the airport at 630 so we were bummed to miss it.

The location is brilliant..steps from major tram stop and right on a canal. Our room was lovely. No canal view but huge bathroom and rooftop view is sweet. Staff was terrific, breakfast was excellent.

We absolutely loved our stay at Dikker & Thijs. It’s a quaint hotel in a historic building on the canal. It was clean, cozy and very safe. The hotel has a 24/7 front desk that you leave your room key with when you leave and the staff was very very friendly - BONUS: you’ll never lose a key! We didn’t get breakfast there but there’s a coffee machine that’s available at your convenience in the lobby for espresso etc. A great cafe across the street that we went to a few times during our stay and lots of restaurants near by as well. We would be happy to stay here again on a return trip to Amsterdam!

Location was great and we had a canal facing room which was very nice. Hotel felt a little old, but it was comfortable. The one thing that was odd was that you had to leave the key with the front desk whenever you left the hotel.

Easy location - a good find.
Great location - staff very helpful. The carpet in the room is looking a little tired as do some other features but all seems clean and works. Breakfast is very good too. Tram runs straight to the main train station yet the hotel is away from some of that busyness.

Overall good, but construction out front
Much older hotel within the circles of down town Amsterdam. We chose a canal view room which could have been lovely but there is massive construction right outside the hotel- not their fault I understand- which negated the purpose of the upgrade and the additional cost. The hotel has an interesting configuration and we had to carry our bags up stairs to reach our room as the lift only managed access to one side of the property. The location is good and walkable to everything you need and the Anne Frank house is down the street.

Despite the prime location, we would NOT stay here again. Pros: -Large Rooms -Close to Tramline Cons: -Very Loud - easy to hear conversations of neighboring guests through the walls and in the hallways. Also could hear the tram arriving every 5 minutes until 1 AM -No AC available, room was unbearably hot. Tried to open a window but it was raining and very loud. Terrible situation. Very poor sleep. -Room had stale smell, likely owing to the older age of the hotel.

Hard to sleep. The bed was way to soft and the noise from the tram and late night rowdiness made it difficult to sleep. The room was excellent. It was annoying that you had to leave your key at the front desk when you left for the day. Wouldn't have been an issue if there was always someone at reception,. Unfortunately, far to often we had to ring the bell to get someone's attention.

Hotel was nice. Staff helpful. No laundry at the location only a service and didn't know until it was too late. Not a fan of the bathtub. The side is really high and was a little difficult maneuver around the roilet

The property is conveniently located and is clean.. however, it is old and lacks amenities. Keeps the rain out and the heat in. People are pleasant and if you don't mind staying in a 1950s hotel this might be the place for you.

Great choice
Hotel is in a great neighborhood. Dozens of restaurants and bars within 3 or 4 blocks. Right on the trolley and bus lines which are very easy to navigate. All of the staff were lovely and extremely helpful.
