The property was an older Victorian style which was part of its charm. The managers were very hospitable and allowed us to check in early and leave our luggage there after checkout. Overall, very good experience

Older property. Vintage like we are. Hotel not modern or perfect but wonderful community porches. Hotel has character and charm. Must be able to do stairs for upper floors—no elevator. Wonderful view of harbor from upper floor. Convenient to restaurants and beach. Short walk up hill from Main Street.

The hotel is very old and quaint, but with that atmosphere comes creaky floors, stairs and doors, footsteps from the floor above, very old, dirty carpet with stains, drapes with threads coming loose, grime on exposed pipes that haven’t been cleaned it at least a year, a teeny tiny bathroom and shower combo, mismatched shower tiles and oddly-matched antique furniture juxtaposed against modern brushed stainless towel racks that were out-of-place, and a peek-a-boo ocean view at a distance. The front veranda is cute, but the cushions were old and dirty and not a great option when wearing light-colored clothing. The light switches and some fixtures are turn-of-the-century. No AC but a nice ocean breeze. Heat was provided by a small portable space heater. It did not feel safe to use it. (I doubt that it meets hotel safety code). The staff were friendly. The bed was bouncy and uncomfortable. Everything from carpet to bedding to Kleenex box smelled musty. For me, although we had a good time in Avalon, I’ll book a different hotel next visit. I can tell the family that runs it means well, but it did not meet my expectations for a hotel at all. It felt akin to an informal B&B (which I never book) because it felt as though as I was staying in a family’s home, not a hotel. The property directly across the street is being rehabbed so it is a construction zone. The location is central with easy access to the promenade.

During my staying although staff was very helpful and nice, the room was dirty. We found a bug and plumbing needs an upgrade. While showering the shower will switch from hot to cold with seconds after adjusting to liking. The light will turn on when we would turn it off.

The Hotel is quaint with charm, but the bungalow style room we were given seemed unsafe. The entire room was not level and seemed to be tipping down the slope. The walls, tiles and ceiling all had cracks like the room was splitting in half. None of the doors closed correctly. No air conditioning in the room. The water tempurature changed while taking showers. There was a light that was left on outside the bedroom window all night and the "blackout" shades did not cover the windows entirely. Also, the staff hosed down the walkways in the morning and woke us up. The carpets were old and dirty. There was a massage chair in the front lobby and the balconoy of the hotel can be accessed by anyone and has a nice view of the harbor.

The toilet seat What's dirty Even though it said it was cleaned. there was food left in the Refrigerator from previous guest. Coffee? Was provided late in the morning. It should be out at least 6 AM. When people are up and ready to go and start their day like other hotels, I saw it was already out. One morning the coffee was set out at 8am with one staff member and another staff member had it out at 7:30 aam and the front door to the lobby did not close all the way so anyone can walk in at night or earlymorningswhen the 8s noone at front desk. In addition, when we said there are two people staying, they should provide in enough toiletries initially not just for one person.

Not the best but not the worst either
The previous time we stayed was better. This time we noticed the shower tiles really need a good cleaning and the stairs/hallway kind of have a urine smell like an old folks home. Also the room could probably use a new mattress, not the most comfortable.

This was by far the worst Hotel I’ve ever stayed in and I’ve been in many hotels throughout the years. The Lady at the front desk was extremely RUDE and unhelpful. The room was terrible. The toilet broke on the second day we were there and initially we did not get any update or help with the broken toilet. The room is very dated and dirty. The floor was crusty and we had to wear socks the entire time we were there. The light/fan would turn on and off randomly throughout the night which made it difficult to sleep considering the room doesn’t have AC. Upon leaving, the SAME front desk lady didn’t say anything to us as we were leaving the hotel with our luggage. She was slouched in a random chair near the main entrance goofing off on her phone. VERY RUDE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD ERNED MONEY HERE!!!!!!

This was our family’s second stay and it was perfect! Quiet and safe accommodations- welcoming staff! The hotel is historic and old, so don’t expect the same condition and appearance as those chain hotels on the mainland. The hotel is unique and kept in good condition given the location.
