What is the difference between a hostel and a hotel?

How do I choose a good hostel?

Make sure your hostel is in a safe area and close to the action — you don’t want to be wasting money on ride shares or public transport. Then, research your room. How many people are in a dormitory? If a 20-bed dorm sounds like a recipe for no sleep, go for a hostel that has smaller rooms. Check out the bathroom situation. Does your room include a bathroom or is there only one per floor? Is it cheaper to book hostels online or in person?
Generally, accommodation providers offer their lowest rates online, and when you book in advance there’s a good chance you’ll pay less. Plus, it just makes sense to book ahead.
