Very disappointed stay!
We booked a room in a nice castle as we saw on the site of HomeAway. When we arrived we got a terrible room far away from the castle. The room was very simple. The building was a kind of stable. Not at all what was situated on the site, or what we could expect. In the evening it was completely dark. We did not enjoy our stay.

Convenient but no character in rooms
We were travelling around France & were staying & reviewing a variety of Chateaux. The exterior, grounds & public areas were all very in keeping with a Chateau, however the rooms were soulless & rather resembled an affordable chain hotel without the benefits of a chain! the restaurant was excellent, friendly staff & good quality food - we had dinner but did not stay for the Euro 12 p/p breakfast which they automatically added to our bill & had to remove.

Lovely, but flawed.
A wonderful location and beautiful grounds. The family room would have been perfect had it not been that it stank of smoke. No other rooms were available to move to. Also be aware that if you book with a family room with children you may be suprised with a '3rd person surcharge' when you checkout. This charge was not make clear on booking and I refused to pay.

Nice place, watch the food
The hotel, room, surrounds and facilities are good. Set in large grounds and very quiet. The pool has no steps so is not good for small children. The big disappointment was the restaurant. The dining room is lovely but the meal very inadequate. Main course lamb consisted of 2 small pieces, gone in 3 bites. waitress didn't seem bothered and offered no reduction. Pity, we didn't eat their agian during our stay.

Excellent 2 days
This is the second time we have stayed at the chateau for two nights-prolonging a stay at a local camping site. Both times we have stayed in the motel type rooms which we find very adequate-a large bed and very clean bathroom- overlooking an open field. As it was hot we spent a long time in the pool which was warm! Again we had a fantastic evening meal in the chateau-pre-booked. It is expensive but worth every penny!!-we also indulged in breakfast 12 euros but again very, very good.

When we booked through Expedia the photo showed a chateau type property. However, when we arrived we found that we were in an annexe some way from the chateau which was disappointing as we were not told in advance that would be the case. Nevertheless the accommodation was very good and surroundings lovely.

Beautiful chateau
Beautiful chateau and surroundings although the actual location of the chateau was a bit disappointing. Quite a way out of the village at the end of a dead end road. Food was good but felt that they tried a little too hard. Reception and restaurant area were very nicely decorated, lovely terrace area for breakfast and evening drink, would have been even nicer if they had gravelled it. Rooms pleasant and comfortable although our rooms never saw the sun which was a shame. Altogether a lovely stay but with a few extra touches and slightly higher budget on doing up the priory landings it could be a top class hotel. Staff were all very helpful and pleasant.

An absolute gem of find! Love this hotel. This was our 2nd stay here. Last year we stayed in the Chateau, and this year in the Priory. My preference is the Chateau; there is nothing wrong with the Priory, its just that it has been modernised throughout, and lacks the character the the main house has. The restaurant is superb, but pre-booking is reccomended. Most staff also speak English which was a benefit with my limited French.

A Chateau Hotel
A beautiful chateau hotel set in the country ,surrounded by fields full of horses. The rooms were built into an annex with plenty of room in good condition and with a comfortable bed The restaurant has a modern tasteful decor and the menu was of a very high standard,we will stay there again

A hidden gem
This was a spledid find! Our first experience of Chateau style accommodation and thoroughly enjoyed it. The modern contemporary interior design in a neo-gothic building is quirky, but kind of works for a boutique hotel.. The bedroom was of a very high standard and well thought out use of space. The highlight was the restaurant; beautifully presented quality food. The only disappointment was not being able to eat there every night, due to it's popularity and limited capacity. Staff were all very attentive and helpful. The hotel is also well located to explore the Vendee. Would definitely stay there again.

Serene Getaway
This calm and peaceful hotel offers a wonderful opportunity to relax by the pool or in the garden with gloriously large hydrangeas. There are horses pastured around the property which made my child happy since one of them was pregnant and another was nursing her colt. Our room, in the far less appealing Verge section near the pool, included a very comfortable bed and a room that made for superb restful sleep. The little bistro tables stationed at every room was a great place to have breakfast and ease into our day. We wished that we could have stayed longer and look forward to returning. My only warning is that you should make dinner reservations in advance if you plan on eating at the hotel. The only other reliable food options were 30 meandering min. away, which we did not enjoy after an already long day of driving to reach the hotel.

It was everything we had hoped for; relaxing, comfortable, great menu and peaxceful. It was ideally situated for La Roche and Les Sables without the termoil of town living. The area has masses to offer for all tastes within easy reach.
