Every interaction we had with the people of this hotel, from the bellman, the front desk, the hosts and servers at the restaurant was outstanding. Our room was quiet and comfortable. You can walk to the wharf area where there are plenty of restaurant options.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at The Salamander. The hotel is beautiful and very clean. The staff is incredibly polite and friendly. We hope to stay there again on our next trip to DC.

One night stay is enough to miss the old Mandarin

Everything was well thought out and extremely comfortable. Only complaint was the lighting control system. Needed more zones and control points. Some lamps had to use a toggle switch on the cord. But an extremely minor complaint.

Mediocre hotel at luxury prices
The hotel had its ups and downs. The lowest point was that the crib we requested had a piece of metal sticking out into the sleeping area and was obviously dangerous. The temperature in the room also seemed to rarely match the thermostat as we alternated between sweating and freezing. But the staff were fabulous and the indoor pool was my son’s favorite part of the trip.

Beautiful property with wonderful staff. The only negative is they are updating rooms and unfortunately ours was not newly updated. The room was clean but the furniture is showing its age.

The room is nice, good bed and friendly staff but It did not feel like a five star luxury hotel. - I sent a messenger prior to arrival asking if there were any renovations, they answered that the spa on the second floor was under renovation. But there was construction on the same floor and on the floor above us. We were waken up by hammering and drilling every morning. They offered to waive the cancelation fee but we could find a last minute hotel in the area so had to stay. - At breakfast they informed us that the kitchen was busy with room service so our only option was the buffet.. Asked for a green juice or smoothie they said they don’t serve anything healthy (exact words). There main restaurant was close both Sunday and Monday. We had to have breakfast and dinner elsewhere. - The lobby and bar are the same area two of the four nights there were loud parties, I don’t know why Expedia recommends it as a family hotel, the only other area you can gather in is a beautifully courtyard that has has traffic noise from the highway. - They dont have any of the amenities or special details you expect from a luxury five star hotel, no turn down service or chocolate in your pillow, there is no attention to detail. The concierge was nice but not Very helpful. - A thing I did like was they have free bikes you can use that was nice. They also have free coffee to take with you.
