Things to Do in Chesapeake
Grab yourself a kayak and go for a paddle down the Dismal Swamp Canal. The name is deceiving, by the way–this place is anything but dismal! Animal lovers rejoice, because as you’re cruising the canal you may be able to spot bobcats cruising the shoreline, snapping turtles snapping (because that’s what they do), and some 200 species of birds.
Before you retire to your Chesapeake accommodation, head north to the city of Norfolk and immerse yourself in its naval culture. Take a tour of the USS Wisconsin (BB-64), which was commissioned on the second anniversary of Pearl Harbour and served in the Pacific Theatre of World War II. Take the Wisky Walk tour that showcases the service of the battleship through photographs, video presentations and artefacts. Swabbing the poop deck is not necessary.
Getting to & Around Chesapeake
Your flight will probably land at Norfolk International Airport (ORF), about 24 km from downtown Chesapeake. There are no bus or shuttle services to and from the airport, so your best bet for public transportation to Chesapeake hotels is by taxi.
