Watch out for the Valet Parking. All cars need to be out by noon if your intention is not to use the valet parking no longer. They will charge you for the whole day after.

I stayed her out of necessity for work; otherwise I'd never pick this neighborhood. The room was large but in need of a refresh; the bathroom was tiny. The wifi was embarrassingly slow, so if you're looking to get work done or stream a movie, go somewhere else. The TV didn't work either.

The Allegro is one of our go-to hotels for an overnight or 2-night stay in Chicago because of its fab location in the heart of the Loop/theater-land. It is a refurbished 1926 building, so the rooms (at least the ones we are assigned to) are very small and the bathrooms and closets are laughably tiny. It is scrupulously clean and the staff are always friendly and helpful. I would rate this an excellent 3-star hotel. The BIG PROBLEM though is that they tack on an exorbitant Resort Fee, aka Destination Charge, aka JUNK FEE. It serves no purpose except to deceive online customers into thinking that the nightly rate is less than it really is. They do offer a small partial credit designed to drive you to the restaurant (which is closed Sundays and Mondays), to the small bar, or to buy snacks that you don't want. I hope that someday these fees are illegal. Meantime, I try to avoid hotels that charge them, but often we are stuck with them.
