Welcome to COMPASS ROSE COTTAGE ★ The Quintessential Cape Cod Cottage

Ideally located on a quiet street steps away from Flax Pond, and just over 2 miles to Mayflower Beach, plus convenient to all that Dennis and the Cape have to offer. Decorated with local art and pottery, along with antique pieces discovered in the area, this charming cottage is the perfect Cape Cod getaway.

A great traditional knotty pine cottage with inviting living areas highlighted with vaulted wood beamed ceilings, it is appointed with a fully equipped retro kitchen with breakfast bar seating and skylight.

The inviting living room space is bright and airy, and has a sleeper sofa with full size bed. There is a dining table for 4, and an additional sitting area to relax in.

The two cozy bedrooms are also tongue and groove pine paneled; one with a queen bed, the other with a twin bed. The comfy nook in the sunroom, with antique daybed equipped with custom mattress and box spring, is a wonderful spot to curl up with a good book, or to sleep the night away.

The cottage has one full bath with stall shower, a 32 Inch Hi Def TV , a second smaller Smart TV, Cable, High Speed WIFI, gas BBQ grill, wood shed with beach supplies, 2 bicycles, and 2 kayaks, and an outdoor deck with a dining area where you can sit back and enjoy.

There is a window air conditioner and tower room fans if needed, and a wonderful cross-breeze that usually comes through the many windows of the cottage.

A private outdoor shower with hot and cold water and separate changing area provides the perfect experience after a day at the beach.

The nearby beaches are perfect for young and old alike. Splash around in the bay beaches at high tide or explore the miles of tidal pools at low tide.

You can also choose to walk around the corner to secluded Flax Pond (cottage has deeded beach rights), which provides a nice alternative to sunny days at the ocean. You’ll love being able to kayak, canoe, sail a sunfish, swim, or float the day away, in the shady calm warm water Flax Pond provides. Take a relaxing walk through the miles of nature trails that surround Flax Pond, and discover the second small sandy beach on the other side of the pond.

Dennis offers 16 beaches including Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, and numerous freshwater ponds. There are 2 championship golf courses, and a charming village with many quaint shops, restaurants, ice cream parlor, library, The Cape Playhouse, Cape Cinema, art galleries, and museums, all located a few minutes away on historic Route 6A.

And let's not forget Captain Frosty's, one of Cape Cod's best seafood shacks, just a short walk outside the neighborhood, for some delicious fried seafood and chowder, or for a sweet ice cream treat!

Wonderful stay at Compass Rose Cottage
We stayed one week at the cottage and had a wonderful time. The cottage was perfect for just the 2 of us. The location is perfect with a short walk to Flax Pond and a short drive to Mayflower beach. The cottage is so tastefully decorated. We didn’t really cook but the kitchen had everything we needed. Carol was very responsive each time we contacted her. All in all a wonderful experience.

I visited cape cod for the first time and booke the compass cottage for me and my two boys. At first glance the cottage seems small but once we were all settled in it was perfect! Games for kids, plenty of beds, kayaks, bikes you name it. Flax pond (almost like a small lake) was awesome. Cottage was clean and communication with owners was amazing. When we encountered a problem Carol was on it right away. The cottage itself is very well located smack in the middle of the Cape. It’s close to groceries, liquor stores, beaches etc. It was great!

Very enjoyable
My husband and I had a wonderful week! Flax pond is a hidden gem. We enjoyed kayaking and swimming. There ate plenty of restaurants in the area. And of course ice cream shops. We went to Chatham to see the boats come in and watch the seals. Also went to Light house beach, corporation beach and Brewster Flats.

Memorial Day 2024
I’ve rented all around the Cape, this must be the BEST rental by far. The attention to details are what makes this rental different. We spent Memorial Day weekend here. The owner graciously let us check in early on Friday. The sun was out and it was in the low 70’s. We went swimming in Flax pond and used the kayaks, boogie boards, water shoes, life vests- all found in the organized shed. The water in the Pond was so clean and warm. All weekend we used the bikes as well. The cottage has an old Cape feel to it, and exceptionally clean and well cared for. The rugs, the dish towels, the wall decor, the mugs, pillows, even the bed linen rented - EVERYTHING is just so comfortable and well thought out. The outside shower has a separate changing area with a mirror and body wash. The sunroom is lovely to just rest and relax in. Love the fact there’s no key for the house but a lock pad that you punch numbers into. Both bedroom beds are super comfy and the bed comforter /blankets & pillows are just so nice! My teen daughter loved waking up and seeing all the bunnies on the property. Saturday was another sunny day and we took the ferry from Hyannis to Nantucket. So much fun! Sunday morning was a tad cloudy, went biking on CCRT and evening was spent at Corporation Beach. This cottage has everything to make you feel like you’re on vacation!

Perfect little getaway
The house met all of our expectations, and we loved the location. We were able to walk to the pond, hiking trails, and even a few nearby restaurants. We especially appreciated having bikes available to use on the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Every communication with our host was EXCELLENT; always prompt and clear. We didn't love paying an extra $45 to use a set of sheets and like 3 towels, but we were repeatedly forewarned about that charge so that's on us.

The Compass Rose is an incredibly cozy and comfortable cottage. Our 3 year daughter loved exploring they toys and books in the cottage, and she especially loved the hammock outside. Access to the shed for bikes, canoes, beach chairs, etc is a big perk of this property. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. Highly recommended for smaller families with young children.

We liked Carol’s and Gene’s cottage as soon as we walked in. Clean, bright, updated kitchen and bathroom. Very easy check in and great communication with Carol! We spent most of one day using the kayaks on Flax Pond, a very short walk. We walked with both kayaks but they also had wheels you could use to transport them the short distance . We enjoyed the nearby ocean beaches and went out to eat - everything was within a short drive. Would love to stay there again.

Cannot say enough good things about Compass Rose Cottage! Cottage was immaculate, comfortable beds with cotton sheets and lovely towels (plenty of them too!), kitchen well appointed an had everything needed to prepare meals. Restaurants close by. Location is great for easy access to all the Cape has to offer. Communication with owner is EXCELLENT and quickly responds. The pond down the street is an added bonus with everything you'd need given the great kayaks and bikes and chairs in the shed, not to mention beach towels. Wonderful! Thanks for hosting us Carol & Gene. Hope to return again!

Our stay was excellent in every way, and a good value. The cottage was clean and comfortable and even better than the description and photos. The neighborhood is scenic and peaceful, yet still close to many activities and restaurants. The area where the cottage is located is a quiet and upscale part of Cape Cod. The neighbors were all friendly, and the cottage owner is very nice and helpful. We plan to visit again soon.
