It’s an historic hotel - so you expect the odd creaky floorboard! But i found it to be charming & comfortable with very friendly staff and the food was excellent with my (tricky) food allergies catered for. It was lovely to have breakfast looking over to the white cliffs & the English Channel. Only downside was finding there is no ramped access at the front and where there was, at the rear, it was blocked with large trollies of laundry - they were swiftly moved when requested but that was my fire escape route. I hope to stay again.

Staff were nice and obliging. The building is very old with only one tiny elevator to service all floors. Our room was next to a service elevator being used by people renovating another part of the hotel, could clearly hear the elevator instructions (going up, going down, etc) through the wall. Industrial waste bins outside our room were loud when bottles were being emptied into it. Pull out bed for third person was very, VERY small. If you're only staying for a short period and spending little time in the room, this is a serviceable place, but nothing exceptional. I would advise asking for a room away from an elevator.

Small window was too high to see anything but sky and pigeon spikes(and a rather largish pigeon warning sticker plastered right in the middle without standing up. The room, a double, was tiny. I can't imagine two people in it(I am small, and had only a small rucksack and had some difficulty maneuvering in it. There was an enormous television but it didn't work with the remote. Staff member who finally responded confirmed that it wouldn't work with replacement remotes and promised technician would be there in 5 minutes. Never showed and my tv, despite repeated requests was never fixed or replaced. I pointed this out yet again upon checkout and was told it would be reported , no help to me. My credit card had been swiped to cover incidentals, but was never initially accepted without a struggle and wait on my part, as it somehow failed to be in the system, despite me showing receipt each time. There was one tiny working elevator for all guests in this large hotel and.waits were long. I tried the two staircases only to find it was impossible to use them and this was confirmed by reception who explained that they were closed due to construction (which could be heard at times; trim in hallways was being painted and the fumes were noxious.) The accommodation was great, room spacious & added bonus of a balcony. Restaurant was not the best, & the English man on reception was nice on check in but during our stay was not very helpful.

Quiet room . Few tight corridors and stair cases . It did exactly what I needed as it’s only 5 minutes from the ferry port
