Kauai ocean view home near Tunnels & Lumahai Beach

Traveling north past Hanalei, you enter the dense jungle and intense blue waters of Kauai's far north shore. There are no words that can describe nature's beauty in this region. Many beaches, including tunnels and ke'e, are in the area. Trail heads for some of the most memorable hikes on earth are nearby. The ocean view from the home is spectacular.

The Wainiha beach house brings you old style Hawaii in a jungle setting with a stream flowing in your back yard. Built in 1963 of Polynesian design, the house was the dream of Peggy Slater, known as the Amelia Earhart of sailing. Waterfalls, rainbows, crashing surf, fragrant flowers and exotic colorful birds will surround you. Please note: If you are sensitive to noise, the home is located on a "slow driving" section of Kuhio Highway which at certain times of the day you can hear the passing cars going over the one lane bridge. Home has high speed wireless internet, phone, cable tv, and full kitchen.

BEACH ACCESS: The beach in front of house that you see in the pictures is not accessible. The closest public beach access is 1/4 mile drive either direction from house. Tunnels beach (one of the most scenic beaches in the world is 1/2 mile away.

Bedroom 1 has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a King bed and Bedroom 3 has a Queen bed. There is A/C in the master bedroom.
PLEASE NOTE: The bedrooms in the home are "railroad style" meaning they run in a row. Keep this in mind as it is more suitable for those not requiring lots of privacy between the bedrooms.

Enjoyable Experience
House, beds, living room was very comfortable. View of the ocean from all rooms was very pleasant. Minutes close to beaches, Hanalei for eats and provisions and Napali. Ha'ena area is serene.

This is a Classic Hawaiiana home. Yes there is traffic but when everyone goes home for the day you hear the sound of the waves. We felt quite at home here.

Great beach house vibe!
Pros: super awesome beach house vibe and decor! This place had everything we needed for a fun and relaxing North Shore stay. Cons: the railroad style layout. I don't recall this in the listing when we booked, so we were surprised when we arrived. Just a bit awkward when you're staying with your kiddo and in-laws and can literally hear what's going on in the bathroom and room next door all through the night. And the road/bridge crossing is louder than expected especially if you're a light sleeper (noise cancellation app works wonders though!)

Perfect for us!
My husband and I shared the Master bedroom. Our 2 adult sons shared the other bathroom and each had a bedroom. We ALL loved the home, beds, and location. If you are concerned about privacy and a gourmet kitchen- this place probably wouldn't delight you like it did us. Conversely if you want to feel surrounded by jungle, have an awesome view, be a bit removed from people, and can manage just fine with a bare bones kitchen (I didn't come to cook, I came to snorkle) this place is worth the stay. I had been concerned that it might be a bit shabby or weird- but it was absolutely perfect for us.

Very cool traditional home by the ocean
This property was perfect for our group! We enjoyed the vintage vibe and decor. We appreciated the books, games, nice dishes. It was fun to cook together and play games after a day exploring. The beds are super comfy, the landscaping is pretty, and the sound of rhe ocean while we slept was very nice! Bit of noise from the bridge, but we didn't mind. Everything we needed was there. I am very happy that we found this property for our Kaui visit. Mahalo!

North Shore Old Hawaii
This is a great property! Like a prior guest said: it's like staying at a friend's old beach house. We always appreciate being off the beaten path. The cross breeze kept the house wonderfully cool and the beds were so comfortable. Wi-fi worked perfectly. The nearby market had many goodies and the smoothies were yummy. We are pretty laid back and were not bothered by the bridge traffic, frequent rooster crowing and sticky pocket doors. Most of the time there was only the blissful sound of the ocean. Three suggestions for improvement: please add table seating for 6. We do not eat on our living room furniture at home but had no choice if we wanted to eat "together". Please replace the bath towels. They smell terrible when used. A front covered area would be so lovely. The picnic bench was nice but too sunny most of the day. Mahalo!

Beautiful Hawaiian home
The house was beautiful had lots of character The beds were super comfy with beautiful linens The location was nice being able to see the ocean across the street. The big windows were really a plus. A lot of great beach toys for the kiddies The kitchen had the basics but was missing a peeler which I needed often. And the knives were pretty dual. There is a cute market walking distance down the road with lots of goodies that was really nice and convenient. This property is located very north on the island which I love because it feels secluded and jungle like, beautiful views of the mountains and very close to one of my favorite beaches (tunnels) about 5 miles north-parking fulls up fast so go early! Or later in the day There is a list of things they would like you to do before you leave more than I’m used to seeing. Which included- Wash and dry towels Strip the beds Wash dishes- which i think is pretty standard Overall the good definitely outweighs the bad this is just my very honest option and things I think renters should know. I think the price is fare comparing it to other stays on the island. Mahalo!

Good location to be first at the North Shore beaches.
It’s nice good floor plan. Nice location although we though we could not walk right to the beach like we thought from advertising. The master bed was great. Love all the windows. Only draw back was a musky smell (we finally got used to it) and the doors on the master bedroom didn’t close correctly and were very loud when trying to open. I’d stay here again.

Charming and authentic home
We had a lovely time here, the house is so unique and special. It has its quirks but the location is ideal if you love the north part of the island, and the vibe of the house is really great. The outdoor shower was a real treat. I would definitely stay here again.

Fun Spot to Stay
It was definitely a nice place to stay. It is a little bit out of town which can be a pain when having some drinks in the bay, but that was explained to us beforehand. The only bummer was we could not find/get to the beach in front of the property. We tried to access it to the East, but was told that we were not allowed, and the next closest beach could only be accessed via a car. Worth the stay, can't complain!

Great little beach house on the North Shore of Kauai
Amazing house with nice size yard, washer & dryer, view of ocean banana trees on property. If you’re lucky they will be ripe & ready to eat. Little market 2 houses away with smoothie shop next door. Close to Hanea. About 10 -15 min drive to Hanalei town. Beach chairs, ice chests, umbrellas & towels for trips to beach. Picnic table out front for outdoor eating. Windows open wide to allow ocean breezes to cool house & ventilate. Highly recommend this house.

It's all about the location...
This property is a typical beach house. A little tired, not really cared for... but the location makes up for all that. The pictures on the listing make the inside of the house feel fresh... which it is not. Despite the kitchen being lackluster (not enough pans for cooking... missing utensils... not enough cups), the beach items (toys, towels, chairs) were on point. And did I mention the location? You can't beat it. Overall, I would stay again... now knowing what to expect, which isn't much in the area of comfort.

My family rather enjoyed the opportunity to be in a more private location. It’s a bit of a drive but totally worth it! The Kauai Trailblazer book at this location was an excellent little gem, we found the best snorkeling from the Kauai Trailblazer book, totally made the trip!

Surfer house - good vibe
We liked the location (close to Hanalei) and the casual surfer Hanelei vibe of the place as well as all the woodwork and super comfy beds. However, the home very much needs a deep clean - windows, grill, light fixtures are all very dirty. The layout of the house may not work for some - you have to go through the first and second bedroom to get to the second and third; not much privacy, but fine for the right crowd. It's spacious with a great view and the noise from the road that we read about in other reviews was no factor at all for us.

Definition of Paradise!
We instantly felt at home in this house! It has everything you need to live, just like home. We stayed here for 11 nights. It was spacious for the 6 of us. Loved that we could open the windows all throughout the house and have the breeze flow through! The day we checked in the neighbors dog came and greeted us. That was very welcomed as we have dogs at home. He was a caramel colored small breed dog named Keoke (not sure if I spelled that right but, it's pronounced like key-o-key). The next small breed dog that came and hung out is white with brown spots, his name is Lucky. They were both very friendly, sweet dogs. The backyard was nice and private. But, I warn you!! The mosquitos will eat you alive, lol! We tried everything but straight deet. I think they are immune to OFF and Cutter. We even bought some essential oil naturopathic stuff at Big Save in Hanalei. It worked better than Deep Woods OFF and Cutter. But, after about an hour or so it wears off and the feast continues lol. The house is right off Kuhio Hwy and traffic can get pretty busy but, not distracting to us. When backing out of the drive way, just be sure to go slow. Our favorite beach to go sunbath was at Haena Park. The water there is really rough but, for just laying in the sun it's perfect! For food we went to the Big Save market in Hanalei. They surprisingly had a lot of stuff! For being so far north and not many options, their prices weren't to bad. The house has everything you need to make a full meal. The coffee maker is awesome and the toaster was really high tech! We would stay here again and we miss our home of 11 days! MAHALO! <3

Calm, spacious and relaxing house
We rented this lovely house for a week. We were 2 adults and four kids. The house is spacious with three bedroom, 2 queens and one king bed. To bathrooms with shower and toilet, and an additional outside shower. Large living room and dining area. We enjoyed the stay at this house, it is situated in a tranquil area, but a bit far from shops i.e., so rental car is needed. The house is really close to the ocean and a beautiful beach, you will hear the ocean and the waves! But there is no swimming at this beach due to strong current and big surf. You need to go 3 - 10 minutes to either side for nice beaches. We especially recommend Hanalei beach, where we took surfing classes and Anini beach that was calm and a perfect spot for swimming and playing for our little ones. Beautiful sights near by and lots of things to do like hiking, swimming, padling, surfing, seigtseeing, shopping and dining at the nearest town Hanalei. There is also a general store just up the road, but they had few items. So you should rent a car and shop on your way to the house. The only drawback was the road passing in front of the house, between you and the ocean. It is no heavy traffic road, but still is in your sight while looking at the ocean. Nice and clean house. The caretaker was easy to deal with and answered our questions rapidly.
