Good but could be better.
On the whole, a nice hotel. Fantastic staff, always helpful. There were a few issues that let the hotel down. Carpet on ground floor corridor to rooms was loose and tended to bunch up. This would be a trip hazard to those not steady on their feet. The carpet in our room (63) was stained in a number of places, and was looking tired. The door to our room did not close due to rubbing on the carpet. The door to the toilet made a tremendous squeel when shutting and opening. There were stains on the door and wall around the hinges and wall where staff had tried (lazily) to fix the noise. The noise is due to the hinges being stressed and no amount of lubricant will help. Other than these few points, our stay was very good. Disappointed that the lighting was not using led's.

Great stay a Holiday Inn express Colchester
The hotel was clean and very welcoming. The staff were ALL excellent. Very quick to help and have laugh with you. Our room was very spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. Despite being next to the A12 the hotel is very quiet and relaxing. We look forward to our next stay.

Average hotel, parking is £8 per day.
The hotel was clean and staff was friendly. We had a family room and a sofa bed. The sofa bed was very average and not comfortable to sleep on it. We were Very disappointed to find out that parking was charged for £8 per day. This was not advertised when we booked and there was literally no other place to park by the hotel. The hotel is by the motorway so there is no option for street parking

Hello The room was spacious and comfortable. My wife particularly appreciated the glutten free selection available at breakfast. The hotel was well cited for exploring the local attractions. The room was not visited by the cleaners on one morning so we had to take some time out to get the waste bin emptied and replacement tea and milk. Overall thou' a pleasant stay

Not so good as last time.
We were disappointed when we arrived to be told that we had to pay for parking because we had booked via a third party and weren't IHG members, as there was no mention of this when we booked. Also the lift was out of order for the whole of our stay and one of the reasons for choosing the Holiday Inn Express was that it had a lift. When our bedding was changed the used bedding was left in our room. one day they had run out of egg for breakfast.

Excellent room, bed and breakfast but unfortunately I was (illegally) charged £8 for parking when the Hotel.com website promised free parking. The receptionist refused to honour this and said the Hotel.com administrators had failed to update their listing.
