A Tudor experience in lovely settings.
The building is very impressive and the grounds are beautiful. However, I was expecting more amenities in the room, and a fridge. The decor was very dated in the room, and the furniture was somewhat worn. The beds were very comfortably and the bedding wonderful.

The main building is impressive and the grounds are beautifully kept. The Atrium bar and Arboretum are quite striking. Our room was along a rabbit warren-like corridor and once in the room the room doors around us were constantly slamming by other guests. The room was clean and basic but the temperature of the room was too hot at all times despite turning off the incredibly hot radiator for October. The bathroom was clean but in need of complete refurbishment as the shower system was difficult to turn on and off and almost hanging off the wall. I was woken early by the guests above us walking up and down for an hour before they clattered down the stairs next to us. Breakfast was good. The usual fried selection and a nice selection of fruit and pastries. The dining tables were a little too close together though. An ok stay for the one night but I would imagine the rooms were bette in the main building and for longer stays, I would want a better room.

Lovely exterior & interior, friendly front desk. Disappointing dining options, poor/slow service in Atrium bar (almost self service) food average for the price. Room comfortable but COLD, try get through to reception, it won't happen!! Tried multiple times from room phone & mobile .... nothing! They weren't that busy. Poor service let them down, won't be back. Shame!

A really disappointing stay
From my arrival to my departure the room and service were so disappointing. Arriving in the rain, trying to get through the doors was a nightmare. There was nobody at reception. My room had no TV remote, no water, a duvet that didnā€™t fit the bed with small holes, overlooked a car park with no privacy blinds, a noisy bathroom fan, stained silverware in the bathroom, black marks around the bath, tap and mirror. Room service was going to be over an hour, and the bistro was too full to get a seat. A two night stay, I was locked out of my room on day two, walked back to reception where there was a long queue when I needed be getting ready for an evening event. The plus was the comfortable bed and the beautiful grounds.

Tortworth Court is a mixed bag, and my scores reflect that. In order of experience, front of house was efficient and friendly - 8/10. It would have been useful to have been asked if we had dinner plans on arrival - see below. The Leaf Spa - 9/10. Friendly, professional and the treatments were exceptional. The pool and sauna/steam room facilities are tired. Room - 6/10 at most. Adequate, but not particularly well designed or appointed. No large drawers, and only two coathangers in a double room is ridiculous. Everything was clean-ish but not sparkling. Again, the word would be "tired". The hotel was busy when we stayed, with a wedding party and a murder mystery weekend in full swing, but the feeling was that the staff really could not cope with so much happening at the same time. Table service in both the main restaurant and the bistro was patchy and at times more than a little random. When the food was good it was very good, but we sent the dessert back in the main restaurant for being inedible. No apology was offered, no attempt was made to find out why, but at least it was taken off the bill. 6/10 Overall the hotel has potential but it needs investment and a refurbishment, management with an eye for detail and some customer care training and attitude adjustment in some of the staff would not go amiss. Our stay was not 4 star standard by any stretch of the imagination and we will not be returning anytime soon.
