Accommodation In Kangaroo Valley

Kangaroo Valley is a small town in a big valley with a huge amount of activities on offer. It’s one of only seven fully-enclosed valleys in the world, and sits between the Cambewarra and Barrengarry mountains. It’s a place where you’ll find rainforest, creeks, sandstone cliffs and a quirky town centre, along with both nature-based and artistic activities. Like the name suggests, there are kangaroos here, as well as wallabies, and you might spot them in the paddocks or on the side of the road. Hop to it with one of our Kangaroo Valley hotels!

Once a meeting place for several Indigenous tribes, Kangaroo Valley still has walking trails from thousands of years ago. Surveyor George Evans, the first European to visit Kangaroo Valley, described it as "a place no painter could beautify". Today, he’s still right. At 25,600 hectares, the sea of lush greenery is interrupted only by a main street with small boutique stores. While the population in the Kangaroo Valley village is about 350, that number grows to roughly 1,300 when you include the surrounding villages. Kangaroo Valley is surrounded by the Morton National Park, a 1,757-square-kilometre New South Wales park, which is famous for the Fitzroy Falls.

This means there’s more than enough rainforest for you to explore, as well as plenty of other natural landscapes. The Three Views Trail is a 12km trek through woodland and wildflowers, leading to three separate lookouts that each offer views over a seemingly endless gorge. If you’re not up to walking the whole 12km, just hiking to one lookout is a worthy journey in itself. Not up to exploring the wilderness alone? Take in the countryside on a guided horseback tour! Or see the natural beauty of the area with a kayaking expedition down Kangaroo River where you’ll paddle beneath Hampden Bridge, Australia’s last remaining wooden suspension bridge.

On the western side of the bridge you’ll find the Pioneer Museum Park. Explore buildings from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, filled with artefacts. There’s an old-fashioned family homestead, a settler’s hut, a bush school and a big school bell you can ring yourself. It’s not all about nature in Kangaroo Valley, either. Set among farms and forest, Moss Vale Road has Mediterranean food, delicious coffee, pie shops, ice cream and fudge. Art galleries display local crafts and even offer classes, and along with the local boutique shops, they can provide you with something really unique to remember your stay here by. Don’t forget to visit the Kangaroo Valley Village Markets, held at the Kangaroo Valley Showground on the second Saturday of every month. You can wander around enjoying the free music and entertainment while enjoying the fresh food.

Our Sydney flights can help get you to Kangaroo Valley. From there, it’s a two-hour drive or you can take a train to Bomaderry and a bus to Kangaroo Valley. With so much to do here, you’d be hopping mad not to visit. Book your Kangaroo Valley accommodation with us!
