Accommodation In Macau SAR\n

When you want to visit warm beaches by day and take in an unparalleled skyline by night, it’s time to book flights to Macau, a seaside sovereign state adjacent to China’s Guangdong Province. As a former Portuguese territory, Macau is home to an eclectic blend of cuisine and a rich history. Keep up the pace between cloud-kissing high-rises or slow down in the gardens of A-Ma Temple (built during the 15th century!).

Although the city is small, accommodation in Macau is plentiful and varied. Stay near the beach, score a gorgeous harbour view or dream near calmer waters by the banks of Nam Van Lake. Speaking of unconscious adventures, there’s no risk booking accommodation near the City of Dreams, so save the gambling for the many casinos in the New Urban Zone.

What to Do in Macau

Over the years, Macau has developed a reputation for red-hot gaming, and many Macau hotels are luxurious destinations in and of themselves. But before you sidle up to a blackjack table, wander through the colourful streets of Macau’s historic city centre to check out local cafes, colonial architecture and Chinese markets. This Asian metropolis, which is divided into Catholic parishes, is a fusion of many cultures. St Anthony’s Parish is home to the ruins of St Paul’s Cathedral and the Macau Museum. For an idyllic step back in time, wander over to Senado Square on the northern edge of St Lawrence’s Parish and head south to A-Ma, a Taoist temple dedicated to the maritime goddess Matsu. Stop here for a blessing if you plan to go island-hopping, just to be extra safe. If you’ve ever found yourself torn between Chinese and Portuguese takeaway, Macau’s got all your dinner plans sorted. Before dinner, prime your palate with a tour of the Wine Museum near Guia Fort & Lighthouse in Fisherman’s Wharf. You know, for science…and samples.

Getting To & Around Macau

Touch down at Macau International Airport (MFM), located on the state’s northern coast. Be careful not to fall into the South China Sea as you look around for your hotel in Macau—the airport is right on the water. Take a taxi from the airport to your accommodation, but once you’ve dropped off your bags the city is very easy to explore on foot.

Best Time to Visit Macau

Any time is a good time for a Macau holiday—seriously. Some months are more popular than others, but you can visit any time. If you want to join other travellers in taking the city by storm, visit during the peak seasons of October to December and March to April, when the weather is most temperate. To skip the queues and turn up the heat, plan your trip any time between May and August. The warmer weather means warmer water, too!
