Philippines Holiday Packages

What can you say about the Philippines? It’s a sovereign island country in Southeast Asia with something like a million islands belonging to it. Okay, maybe not that many. But it seems like it!

Anyway, the city of Manila is nicknamed “The Pearl of the Orient” and has all sorts of sites to check out, like the walled city of Intramuros. The coral reefs along the coast and outer islands provide some of the best scuba diving conditions on earth, and we probably should add that the food is wild and delicious. But enough about all that! Book one of Wotif’s great Philippines holiday packages and you’ll be living it up in Southeast Asia in no time.

Before You Do Anything, You’ve Got to Eat

Part of travelling to a far-flung destination is doing things you normally wouldn’t…like eating some strange foods. Do you feel what we’re getting at? When you’re on Philippine holidays, eating something weird is easy. Check out a couple of these interesting dishes below:

  • Balut – This one tops the list of “out there” foods to eat during holidays to the Philippines. Balut is a boiled developing bird embryo that is eaten from the shell, and it’s one of the most popular street foods in big cities like Manila and Quezon. But just because it’s popular with the locals doesn’t mean this snack isn’t exotic. It’s almost a badge of honour amongst your friends if you can muscle one of these bad boys down.
  • Isaw – Dining on grilled intestines may sound ridiculous, but don’t be fooled by the name or what it is. This dish is made from cow and pig intestines that are cleaned, turned inside-out, cleaned again and then thrown on the grill. You can touch it up with savoury sauces like egg gravy or plum sauce.
  • Bibingka – After you’ve gotten through the two dishes listed above, treat yourself to something a little more…normal. A bibingka is a rice cake cooked in clay pots lined with banana leaves. To make it extra sweet, add some shaved coconut on top.

You’re a Tourist, Act Like It

If you want to see as much of the capital city as you can, book Manila car hireto go with our Philippines packages and you’ll be able to drive from this sideof the city to that side of the city quicker than Manny Pacquiao can throw a jab. Start your adventure off with a tour of Intramuros. Wandering the historic core of the city is a must-do for any would-be tourist like yourself. You’ll see places like the Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Roma, Palacio del Gobernador and the Manila Cathedral.

After you’ve gone back in time, make your way to the Manila Ocean Park, located in the Rizal Park section. The coolest part of the park is the 25m underwater acrylic tunnel, where whale sharks and other creatures of the deep are separated from you by a thin layer of glass. This just might be the highlight during Manila holidays.

Set aside your daily tasks for a few minutes and browse Wotif’s incredible list of Philippines package deals. We’ll see you there!
