Thomas James is fantastic for the price, which includes full English breakfast. It’s not luxurious, but for that price you’d hardly expect it to be.

Property v convenient for my visit, and staff v friendly. However, I thought I had paid for my booking thru Expedia, but was charged by the hotel because they had no record of the transaction. Somebody needs to sort the admin a d communication. Will be checking with my credit carc company when I get home.

My stay was excellent and for the price its excellent value i would recommend the hotel. Only one thing to say is there is no lifts and the stairs are steep.

The room was a reasonable size,but lacked hanging space or drawers for clothes. There were two small drawers,one in a bedside table and one in the other desk type table in the room, and a cupboard in the desk.There was a kettle two cups and coffee, tea, milk and sugar, but no glasses. There was also a hairdryer. The bathroom was adequate. The beds were old lumpy and you could hear the springs when you moved .The room was clean, but was not cleaned at all during our stay,nor were the bins emptied. Breakfasts were cooked to order and we're hot and very tasty but with little choice.

Great conversion of old building with lots of steep stairs and corners. Busy bar below and my room was at track level to the main line through the station able to enjoy the throaty roar of passing freight trains. close to town railway station and pub nearby for evening meal.

We enjoyed our stay. Yes there are steps but a lovely room at the top. Spacious. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Wonderful breakfast and lovely staff. Brilliant in the pub to play pool and watch the sports on multiple screens. The olympics was on when we visited. Convenient for town and a few car parks nearby that are £3.50 for 24 hours stay.

The room we got was not the one advertised or the one we booked . Room absolutely disgusting. Carpet filthy and full of dirt marks, spillages etc. Room had not been cleaned properly either as litter etc still on floor. Bathroom mouldy. Tried to cover up the cracks in the sink basin with silicone. Bathroom cabinet minging. There 3 nights and room not cleaned and no towel changes. Staff seem friendly enough but when mention issues they don’t address. Room noisy due the karaoke in the bar and also lots and lots of noise outside from cars, trucks, motorbikes, people fighting in the streets and also delivery men at 4am loading and unloading their Lorries. Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Raised a complaint but the manager did not get back to me. Have requested a full refund. If that fails will be sending pictures to my credit card company together with pictures and requesting a refund. Will also be sending the pictures to the local council to investigate the hotel for health and hygiene
