This was our first time in Aruba, me and my family have stayed in many all inclusive hotels in DR and Mexico. We definitely had higher expectations from the property and amenities provided. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, there was no “luxuries” provided. The rooms are very worn out and average. The food at the buffet was consistent with all other all inclusive hotels but a smaller selection. The staff was very friendly and housekeeping kept the rooms clean. We enjoyed dining at their restaurants. The issue was with the condition of the room, it was very worn out old furniture and a lot of wear and tear. The beach chairs were another issue, we would be there by 6am every morning and all of the shaded areas were taken by 6am! We never had that before, it looks like some people pay off the staff to reserve them seats or something or get up at 4am - not sure. Most of the loungers were old and broken, and very limited chairs if you want to sit. I never expected this from a 5 star property. They are very strict with their towels too, and there were times when they had no clean ones to give us for hours. Overall I would give it 3 stars

Don't be fooled by this resorts written description of how great this place is. The resort photos are not what you will get during your stay. We booked through Expedia and received a white wrist band at arrival indicating that we are at the bottom of the food chain (Expedia) for service and reservations for restaurants. They use colored wrist bands (Black-Royal / Silver-Upgrade / Grey-Standard / White-Expedia) to differentiate who is who by what they paid. We stayed from 9/10/2024 - 10/24/2024 and wished we could have left after 6 days. We paid for an "UPGRADED OCEAN VIEW ROOM" and got a view of a parking lot (SEE PHOTO). We asked for a different room several times and were told there were none available although many were available and empty during our stay. They will not move Expedia bookers despite not meeting what you booked or paid for. You cannot eat at the Royal Restaurant at all unless you book Royal (States you can in the advertisements with a reservation). The beach bar (One of 3 they advertise), is for Royal only. Most of the Huts on the beach are for Royal Only. The food at the Palm buffet on many days was recycled day to day for what seemed like 3-4 days and if you are not careful you will get sick. Sad to say that you need to smell everything before you eat it. The Arubian seafood restaurant is horrible. A piece of grilled fish over spaghetti with Bertolli white sauce poured over it. The staff was wonderful and helpful. The room was clean but nothing fancy. The beach was nice and the staff that worked at the beach were great. The 2 main areas for improvement are the buffet. It was not very appealing and there were not a lot of food options. The other thing is it is almost impossible to get a chair at the pool. We were there 6 days and never was able to get a chair around the pool, even at 7:15 all the chairs had towels on them but you would not see anyone set in those chairs for hours. We did the Royal Level upgrade and not sure it was worth the extra cost. They only thing nice about the upgrade was there is a bar on the beach for the Royal Level. The location of the resort was great because there is lots of shopping, restaurants, and bars across the street.

The Barcelo was an amazing location with wonderful staff. We did book our trip with the Royal Level, which was nice for the top shelf liquor and free room service BUT the royal resturant and other royal services were not up to my par. The first night we couldnt get a reservation until 9:30pm for the royal resturant despite emailing multiple people multiple times for reservations. We showed up at 8pm in hopes to get in and luckily we walked into a pretty much empty dining room. The night of dinner we were super excited for a lobster dinner being that was offered. After ordering all lobster we were told they didnt have anymore lobster. At that point I wouldve went somewhere else that had lobster at an earlier time. The royal resturants service was horrible and the enviroment was very off. The property is pretty outdated but the staff were super nice.

Upgraded to Royal level for extra money and it was so not worth it if you like better alcohol and to drink on beach it’s worth it for the better liquor on the beach but overall the Royal resturant is a joke the food is horrible I will not be staying at the barcelo again unless they did renovations and updated the property and upgrade there food go stay at the riu

Just FYI - no special treatment for being VIP Expedia member. I was promised free bottle of wine, but was never offered and despite also promising room upgrades upon availability, no upgrade either. I was there during off season and not many were on the property during my stay. Most staff were nice, but some were never happy to help you. We needed two room changes due to room conditions, where one was right by the pool and super loud and one smelled moldy and everything in the room was damp. The final room was still worn down, but we were so tired of room changes so we just stayed. Food was just okay, nothing special but not terrible. I’d say stay if you just want to have an all inclusive experience, but I’d suggest staying at a different all inclusive around the area.

Disappointed in the condition (light out in room, closet door gets stuck, broken tiles, uneven floor, etc). Dining choices were limited and subpar (buffet especially uninspired and repetitive). Yhere is a lack of amenities. The saving grace was the staff. They were friendly and efficient and were the bright spot of the resort.

They need to work on the rooms. Ours needed some painting, sliding doors hard to open and the bedroom overhead light switches were broken. Blow dryer worked on 1 speed, called the desk, to complain, to maint. 3 days to put a new one in. The hotel checked one us twice regarding our stay. Told them disappointed on how the room was looking and a broken hairdryer no one took care of after 2 complaints. Overall the employees were helpful and accomodating. Shared 2 of the restaurants went down hill, the Arubian and Mexican many of the guests talked in the pool area and said they would never eat there again including us. The highlights were the Japenese cusine and Italian restaurant and the Open buffet......Top Notch... overall a resonable all inclusive place to stay, but it needs some updating.
