Travelled from Yorkshire en route to the New Forest, stayed one night.
We had a comfortable nights stay, an amazing evening meal & a fantastic breakfast! We would love to return.
Great room facilities including a fan which was much appreciated!
Popular with the locals which is always a good sign. Recommended!
We stayed at the Bear because we booked a hotel nearby to Tern Hill Hall to attend a wedding. We were blown away by the hotel, it is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, everything is catered to down to fans in the rooms and very fancy toiletries, and the breakfast was the best hotel breakfast that I have ever eaten! An incredible experience from beginning to end.
An absolute pleasure staying at The Bear Inn. We stayed 5 nights as we explored the area. Everything about the hotel from the moment we arrived to when we left was fantastic. The staff were outstanding and made us feel welcome and very well looked after. The room was extremely well appointed, very comfortable and the perfect place to rest after busy days out and about. The food was good, and the Kitchen looked after our requirements without any fuss. We had some of the nicest vegan dishes in a long time. Overall an excellent stay and will definitely be making our way back soon.
We arrived late and missed service in the restaurant but the staff made up plate of cheese and biscuits for us. Very much appreciated, after a long drive. The staff are great and the accommodation is superb it felt like we were the first people ever to stay in the room it was so clean and up together. The quality of everything was top notch it is obvious a lot of care has been taken over the Bear, it is a gem.
Amazing hotel. Cleanliness of room was excellent. Tastefully refurbed. All staff pleasant and friendly. Excellent breakfast only downside was we booked for one night - rooky mistake needed longer to enjoy
Great Hotel, staff and facilities could not be faulted and food was amazing, would definitely recommend to all friends and family

My visit began with a friendly welcome and ended with an equally friendly good bye. In between I had a single bedroom which was fit for purpose with a comfortable bed and well set-out bedroom. Dinner was freshly cooked and delicious, with considerate and efficient service. I left too early for a cooked breakfast (this was explained to me when I checked in) however the 'self-service' version including toast, yoghurt etc. was more than sufficient. All in all a very pleasant stay
Travelling From Basingstoke to the wirral, we needed a place to stay, this was about an hour away from destination. Good pub, with good beer and food. Breakfast was freshly cooked and well presented. Will try to find a reason to stay here again.
A hotel in a beautiful village,in beautiful Shropshire countryside. It combines fantastic chef-cooked food with really well-presented hand-pulled beer. The staff were young, friendly, and enthusiastic. The Hodnet Hall gardens are well worth a visit. These are only open on a Sunday ; the Bear stop serving food at 4 pm on a Sunday. This is ( to be fair to them ) mentioned on their website, but it's easy to miss ! Breakfast is at 9 am if you want a cooked breakfast. This was a little disappointing, as was the early food finish on Sundays. The rooms are clean and functional. The en suite is quite small.

Great village location
Great location very friendly hotel staff great food fantastic rooms clean and tidy.
My room was very basic TV very small limited channels, although the locals would congregate under my window smoking and swearing/drinking as the window was still the old wooden type not able to be open and starting to rot
Meals good but a bit over priced for portion
This is a typical english pub with excellent food and service. The room although small was very comfortable and peaceful. The landlord and staff are extreamly friendly and served a cacking full english breakfast. Would definatley stay again.
ONLY THING THAT STOPPED 5/5 WAS THE ROOM NEEDED A LITTLE BIT OF TLC THE PUB AND OUTSIDE AREAS VERY GOOD IF NOT EXCELLENT FOOD GREAT AND LOVELY RURAL SETTING VERY RELAXING
Good staff and good food. Would book again no problem.

Wedding trip
Stayed here for two nights, May 2014.
Recently refurbished room, nice ensuite although quite small. Hot water was intermittent.
The food is really great, very helpful staff, full english breakfast. In a great spot for visiting Hodnet hall gardens (Walking distance). Of the hotels in the area this is without doubt the best.
Fantastic traditional British pub. Great food, although not cheap end. Rooms comfy and bathrooms look new. All employees really friendly. I will stop here again. The only thing I would say is the rooms are above the pub so expect some noise if you like early nights.
I picked this hotel because it looked like a traditional character Inn and I wasn't disappointed. It has been recently modernised but symathetically to the age of the building. The room was good, clean and with the usual extras. Above all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Highly reccomended.
Lovely old building which meant rooms are not modern but very comfy. The welcome and relaxed atmosphere added to the excellent food made this a really good night. Highly recommended!
