A surprising gem of a find
I needed a stop-over to break up a long drive for work and therefore simply wanted somewhere safe, clean and comfortable to stay. The cost of a single room for one night at less than £40 was so low I feared the hotel wouldn’t have a roof but I took a chance. What a surprising delight I had! With its grand house, beautiful grounds, welcoming and tasteful bar with good food, excellent staff and a very comfortable stay, I would definitely book again. I would upgrade to a double room for a longer stay but the single was more than do-able for a night’s crash pad at unbeatable value.

A nice place to stay, convenient for onward travel. I was staying in the coach house and my only concern was the walk to the main house for food. It's badly lit and the path is uneven. Better lighting would be good. Also they had a wedding on so you could only order from the very limited bar menu. Perhaps having the a la carte menu available as well would be better.

Fir Tree Court is a disgrace
What you see is the Manor House or the 5 star lodge, what you get is Fir Tree Court, old servants quarters with paper thin walls. I could hear the conversation from the room down stairs as if they were in the room with me, snoring from next door all night, TV from another room all night. It was non refundable but I still left a day early because it was so bad. My advice would be to avoid this place at all costs.
