The room was spacious and clean, the staff friendly and helpful in giving us a map and touring/eating suggestions, and there was on-site parking--wonderful! We were able to leave our car after we had checked out, so we could continue our explorations without hassle. We were within walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Highly recommend this place.

Very nice
This place is quite nice, and although not downtown is still walkable to downtown, along the river. The rooms were good and the beds comfortable. Depending on the floor you are on there are some stairs to deal with carrying luggage. Bathrooms were good (for England!), and the staff were good although not overly enthusiastic! I would recommend this place to others.

The beautiful garden, with tables where we could eat our dinner and relax as a family, a small but stocked bar where we could pop in to get a pint on draft. The room was perfect for the four of us.

A comfortable stay
We arrived late - While the desk wasn't manned when we got there, they quickly came out to help us. Our rooms were both clean, but in need of a little tlc, like the rest of the hotel. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom clean. Overall, would stay again.

We booked room 205. Lovely and spacious, gorgeous clean bathroom and the bed was as comfy as our own! Only problem was the room was very warm so we ended up having the windows open all night during our stay - so then a little noisy. Garden was lovely, staff were wonderful and helpful and the position of the hotel was about a ten minute walk.

First, remember that this is a very old building in York, so no elevator for its 3 stories and 16 rooms. Also no air conditioning or fans, and we were there on a rare warm day! There's a cute little bar and patio, a decent cafe/breakfast room and a communal refrigerator (unusual) in the lobby. We have allergies and didn't realize that dogs are allowed (as is somewhat common in UK), but our double-sized family room was very clean and had nice amenities. The 5 of us shared a room with a double and single and an adjoining room with two twins. We had our own private bathroom, and were also just steps to two hallway toilets. York Priory is very convenient to walking along the river to the old town, and to a grocery, eateries and more. We would have stayed more than one night but they had no rooms available. "We're very popular," said the attendant. Two other comments, the front and side rooms overlook a busy street that gets noisy early in the mornings. And though the hotel has a good-sized parking lot in the back, it's a bit tricky to get to the first time. The adjacent streets are VERY narrow and all one-way. Check your GPS (they call it SatNav) carefully and watch so that you turn in right next to the hotel. We missed it the first time and it took 15 minutes to get back there.

At first glance this place appears quite charming. Unfortunately, it became obvious after a brief time that the building, and particularly our room was suffering from pretty severe damp, water leakage and mold. It had an odour that no amount of Febreeze or carpet fresh or whatever they were liberally spreading about could cover. The bathroom was particularly nasty. While the house had a lot of rules, they don't appear to extend to the dog who has the run of the place, including sitting on the furniture and couch cushions while wet from her walk. The room was OK but sparse, bed was hard, sheets worn and rough, pillows lumpy, and no safe provided for guest valuables. The staff we dealt with at check-in was lovely, the daytime staff could barely manage eye contact. Over all, a disappointment = we wouldn't go back.

Ok.
Our stay at the Priory was not too bad. Everybody was really nice in the very short time we were there on an overnight stop off between France and Edinburgh. The communal areas smell a bit weird and there was clutter all around - overall just a wee bit run down. Room was better, brighter and less cluttered. Comfy bed. We chose this place due to proximity to town centre and free parking. Overall for the price - we can’t complain.

Easy access to town, bus route or lovely walk along the river. Breakfast was worth every penny. The staff are lovely. Pet friendly. Didn't like being on the road in our bedroom.
