Lovely dog friendly hotel in a nice setting. The garden and lake made the venue even more picturesque. It was ideal for our needs with great staff, facilities and walking areas.

My room was ok but only 20 metres from a wedding reception/ disco which went on loudly until beyond midnight. Problems during breakfast - my table was cleared twice while I was away collecting food from the buffet. Spa was noisy - loads of kids so more like a morning at your local pool. The jacuzzi has badly tarnished a silver ring and bracelet - not sure yet whether they are salvageable - and bleached my swimming costume. Only one member of staff serving in the bar / restaurant at 1.30pm on Sunday. Rushed off his feet. My lunch (part of the spa package I had booked) took 45 minutes to arrive. I won’t be going back.

Not sure how I feel!
The place is gorgeous but I checked in online then had to do it again when I got there! I booked a double room and was given twins shoved together and rock solid mattresses but everything else I couldn’t fault.

The location and surrounding were beautiful, the staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was okay nothing special for the price paid. The shower was rubbish piddled out as the hose was leaking. The bathroom itself was a bit rough looking but overall it was average standard.

Over booked and moved yet still charged full price
On Arrival i was told that due to bad weather there was an issue with my room and they had to move me to another hotel. They had made arrangements with another hotel half a mile away and booked me in there, I had expected a superior King size bed room however ended up in a dingy dated hotel with no food service or bar. I had to come back to the Mercure in the morning for breakfast to be told by the restaurant manager I was at least one of 8 rooms they had doubled booked.

Not the best
The staff in the sports centre were lovely and gave me a great running route. But the room was not clean, cobwebs and spiders throughout and black hairs in bathroom. The radiator was stuck on hot and could not be adjusted- even though reception came to check and said they would send someone they never sent anyone to fix it. Also the headboard of the bed constantly bangs and needs tightening.

Great accommodation But
We booked a 3 night stay at the hotel being one we'd stayed at times before. We like the old world feel of the main building, in particular the Hotel's Privilege rooms. We intended to eat in the hotel each night but we had a very poor experience the first evening which resulted in us having to find an alternative elsewhere for the other nights. We booked a table for 8 p.m. but when we tried to order, although the hotel dinner menu is quite limited, two of the options were already unavailable. I ordered Ribeye steak, the most expensive item on the menu and my wife ordered fish but when she asked for potatoes as an extra cost side she was told that they were no longer available. Our meals were very poor value with the bulk of my steak being inedible (see photo). I was offered a replacement when I drew this to the attention of waiting staff but my wife had finished the small portion of fish she had been served so I declined, basically wishing to end the experience and leave. The next morning we went down to breakfast at 9 but were told there wasnt a table for us so we had to wait in a lounge. It was a great shame that dinner was so poor as we really like the accommodatioon and staff were courteous and friendly. When asked about our stay at checkout I explained how the dining expreriences had spoiled our stay despite the positives I'd mentioned. I was given a refund for the steak meal and we left wondering whether we would ever book a stay there in the future.

Lovely romantic break
Upon arrival was really disappointed With the room after booking a Superior Double. Millie was able to change our room knowing it was a special occasion and was really supportive. The room was stunning, clean and the ground’s wonderful. I do think the pool & hot tub are a little dated and poor. The hot tub small and barely had any water in it. Wouldn’t return for a spa weekend, however would for a nice night away.
