Yamba Beach
Play in the gentle waves, scour the rock pools for sea creatures or swim some laps in the still waters of the ocean pool at Yamba’s premier beach destination.
Yamba Main Beach is the town’s favored seaside spot to relax and enjoy the gorgeous Pacific Ocean waters. Protected by the rocky outcrops of Clarence Head and Yamba Point, Yamba Main Beach is the ideal spot for families to enjoy a relaxing day by the sea. Swim in the gentle waves that roll into shore or make use of the ocean pool built into the rocky southern bank.
Pack your towel and sunscreen and make your way along the grassy foreshore to reach the soft sands of Yamba Main Beach. Recline on the sand and take in the views of the ocean, framed between the rocky headlands. The beach is overlooked by the historic Pacific Hotel, the Yamba Lighthouse and the Yamba Surf Lifesaving Club. Swim between the red-and-yellow flags under the supervision of the local lifeguards on weekends and summer school holidays. Play in the shallows or leap over the small waves that break on the banks of this small beach. Larger swell occasionally develops further offshore, making great conditions for beginner surfers.
If you would prefer a more sheltered swim, dive into the ocean pool and do some gentle exercise. This concrete pool fits picturesquely amid the rocky shoreline and its water changes with the turning of the tide. The smaller natural rock pools that form around the shoreline are fun places to explore with the kids. Check for marine life in the tide pools and hop over the large boulders.
Grab a snack from the foreshore kiosk or bring a picnic to spread out on the sand. A selection of Yamba’s pubs, cafés and restaurants are within easy walking distance, too.
If the swell is too big at Yamba Main Beach, you can find sheltered, calm waters at Arrawarra Beach. Larger swells can generally be found at Turners Beach and Pippi Beach.
Yamba Main Beach is located on the eastern edge of the town nearby the mouth of the Clarence River. It is easily accessible by car and parking is available at a waterfront parking lot. There is a local bus stop a few minutes’ walk away.
