King George Square
Markets, music and local heritage mean that there is always something happening in the bustling heart of Brisbane’s central business district.
King George Square is a great place to experience some local culture at one of the regular public events and see some of Brisbane’s heritage-listed architecture. Listen to a live band perform and participate in one of the many festivals that are held in the square throughout the year.
Take a free tour of the restored Brisbane City Town Hall. Follow your tour with a visit to the Museum of Brisbane on the building’s third level, where you will find contemporary exhibitions that reflect the culture of the city and its diverse residents. Take the lift up to a viewing platform inside the City Hall Clock Tower and get a lovely view of the city. The Town Hall also runs regular cultural events, such as music recitals, theatre and comedy, in its grand theatre.
In the evening, stroll through the Twilight Markets to see one of Brisbane’s biggest selections of craft stalls and enjoy some tasty street food. The market caters for the whole family so bring the children along for a nice evening out.
Take time to relax at one of two historic cafés located in the City Hall or sip a coffee with the locals and watch people walk by from the square’s al fresco café.
Check the dates and times of festivals and markets on the Brisbane City Council website. Reserve your free ticket to the town hall’s viewing platform from the Museum of Brisbane’s front desk.
Arrive at King George Square by public bus, train or taxi. Parking is available, for a fee, directly under the square. There are a variety of hotels available in the central business district.
