If you fly into Hervey Bay Airport, the rental car pickup area is to the left outside of the main terminal. Get yourself a vehicle and act as your own chauffer during your trip.
Not into driving yourself after you arrive? No problem. Airport transfers are an easy way to get to where you need to go. Book a ride in advance and be on your way.
Hervey Bay Airport (HVB) is not only the main airport for the city of Hervey Bay, but also the main airport for the entire Fraser Coast. It's only a 24.1km trip from HVB to the central business district, or about 20 minutes by taxi or shuttle.
If you don't feel like walking around town, get yourself a bike rental and explore the streets by pedal power. There's also the option of hailing a taxi or car hire. If you'd like to spend the day at Fraser Island, a ferry will get you there in a jiffy.
Hervey Bay's mild climate makes it an ideal holiday destination throughout the year. January temperatures average around 30° and winter temps fluctuate between 21 and 25°. August through November attracts a lot of visitors because of the humpback whales that migrate just offshore.

Whale watching season starts in mid-July and ends in mid-November. If you decide to take part in one of the many available tours, you'll be treated to the sight of humpback whales tail-slapping and breaching the water's surface. They are usually playful, and sometimes approach the boats in a friendly manner. But no, you can't take one home.
Hervey Bay Ocean Festival is a two-week celebration of the humpback whales. It runs in mid-August and is a must-do if you're in town during this time. Fresh seafood, cold drinks and whales-what could be better?
What isn't on? Hervey Bay has heaps of yearly events: the Mary Poppins Festival in nearby Maryborough at the end of June, the Blessing of the Fleet in August, and the New Year's Eve celebration at the end of December. And that's just the starter pack!
