In 1847, Bavarian immigrant Johann Gramp planted the first grapes, founding Orlando Wines and the Jacob Creek Vineyard. The vineyard grew to become one of the biggest wine and spirits groups in the country and one of the most lucrative exporters of Australian wine. In 1993 it was named exporter of the year and has been instrumental in developing the outstanding international reputation that Australian wines enjoy. Today, the multi-award winning estate boasts an excellent restaurant, culinary courses, wine tastings, and ecological and historic vineyard tours.
