Zeehan
Once known as the Silver City, Zeehan is holding on to its former glory for dear life. If you like stepping back in time, this Tassie town is for you.
Zeehan peaked early. The Dutch explorer Abel Tasman circumnavigated Van Diemen’s Land in 1642 and sighted the mountain which Captain Matthew Flinders would later name after Tasman’s sailing ship ‘Zeehaen’ (Sea Cock). If this made you giggle, then the town’s former Gaiety Theatre will have you in stitches. The theatre is now part of the West Coast Heritage Centre, which is the town’s only tourism attraction, apart from the impressive scenery of course.
