Sorrento Beach
Jump in for a surf or swim, visit the nearby aquarium, or just laze on the pristine sands of this popular Perth beach that looks dazzling all year round.
Sorrento Beach is a stunning urban beach, even by Australian standards. It’s situated in the suburb of Sorrento, just south of the Hillarys Boat Harbour marina and tourist precinct. Enjoying some downtime here never gets old.
Along with the clear blue waters of the Marmion Marine Park and great visitor facilities, it’s hard not to love this beautiful stretch of coast. Starting at the southern rock wall of Hillarys Boat Harbour, the beach stretches out for 600 metres (2,000 feet), leaving plenty of space for everyone. There is even a netted swimming area.
Kick off your shoes to feel the warm, white sands of Sorrento Beach between your toes. Jump in for a surf or swim in the turquoise waters on a hot day. Gentle waves provide year-round fun for surfers, kept safe by the volunteer lifesavers of the Sorrento Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.
Treat yourself to a drink or snack in the little café of the Surf Life Saving Club to re-energise before seeing more of Sorrento Beach. Or, bring your own lunch and fire up one of the barbecues in the park for a sausage sizzle.
The humble monument near the entry to the car parking lot marks the spot where a whaling station once stood. Today the whales are fully protected in Australian waters and growing in number. Follow the walking path in the park right behind the dunes and beach for sprawling views of the Indian Ocean. A small lookout point provides a great vantage to spot dolphins or humpback whales during migration season.
Pop next door to Hillarys Boat Harbour to admire the amazing marine life of the W.A. coast in the massive Aquarium of Western Australia. Also check out the marina’s shops and cafés or treat yourself to an exciting boat tour across the Indian Ocean.
Sorrento Beach lies just to the northwest of Perth city centre. The public beach is free of charge and so are its toilet, parking and shower facilities. The parking lot is located right beside the Surf Life Saving Club. If you don’t have a car, it’s easy to get here by public transport from Perth's central business district.
