VanDusen Botanical Garden
Get lost in a hedge maze and admire the elegant layout of this large park with a pond hidden between the trees.
The VanDusen Botanical Garden has impressive landscaped gardens, exotic plants and stunning works of art. The gardens cover an area of 55 acres (22 hectares) and include flowers from around the world. Enjoy the excellent views of mountains that surround the city from this picturesque park.
In summer, take a guided tour of the gardens to learn about the variety of plants. Highlights include the magnolia and rhododendron gardens. Reserve a group tour or pick up a brochure to explore the park on your own. Find out which plants are in bloom during your visit at the visitor center.
Admire the elegant features of the garden, such as the Korean Pavilion and the Stone Garden. Venture into the challenging corridors of the hedge maze, a great family activity. Stop by the pond for a tranquil moment. The pond is particularly lovely in autumn, when the leaves of the surrounding trees change hue.
If you’re visiting the city in December, be sure to attend the Festival of Lights, a local favorite. Here you can meet Santa and other Christmas characters.
Peruse the Garden Shop for lifestyle accessories, souvenirs and books on gardening. Look through the rare and intriguing plants for sale at the Plant Patio. Grow your own exhibits at home with products from the VanDusen Seed Collectors Store.
Purchase professional photographs of your family in the scenic setting of the gardens. Afterwards, have lunch at the Shaughnessy Restaurant at the Garden Pavilion. Enjoy lunch, afternoon tea or dinner with a view across the park. For more casual dining, visit Truffles Café, also located within the gardens.
Go to the adjoining Queen Elizabeth Park to find Bloedel Conservatory. Located on the highest point of the city, the conservatory has collections of art, plants and birds. Enjoy a glass of wine at the on-site restaurant as the sun sets over the Vancouver skyline.
The VanDusen Botanical Garden is closed on Christmas Day and an admission fee applies. Discounts are available for children and seniors. Guided tours are available daily in summer and on Sundays in winter.
The VanDusen Botanical Garden is 4 miles (6 kilometers) south of the city center. Reach the park by bus in around 30 minutes or drive there in approximately 10 minutes. On-site parking is available.
