Port Denarau
Visit this picturesque marina for shopping and dining, traditional music and dance performances, and excursions to Fiji’s Mamanuca and Yasawa islands.
Port Denarau is the point of departure to Fiji’s Mamanuca and Yasawa islands but also a destination in its own right. The picturesque marina is the cultural and commercial heart of Denarau Island, a large resort hub built on what was formerly a mangrove swamp northwest of Viti Levu. Visit the port for shopping and dining, cultural shows and adventure trips by land, sea and air.
Stroll around the port to admire the yachts and cruise ships moored in the clear blue water. If you are in the mood for adventure, book a tour and step onboard a yacht for a sailing trip around the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. You can also admire colorful fish and coral reefs on a snorkeling trip or take a four-wheel-drive tour to the more remote villages on Viti Levu itself. The luxury option is taking a helicopter ride for a bird’s-eye view of Fiji’s many islands.
Browse the port’s mall to find anything from fashion and jewelry to beachwear and crafts. You’ll pass bakeries, ice cream parlors and restaurants serving authentic Fijian cuisine and Asian fusion dishes. Try curries with sweet potatoes, taro or cassava; fresh seafood marinated in lime and coconut; or a Japanese-style tuna steak.
Don’t miss out on the cultural events organized at the waterfront amphitheater and in the resorts. Among these are traditional Fijian and Indian music and dance performances, cooking displays and art exhibitions. You can also attend the annual international Jazz and Blues, and South Pacific Food and Wine festivals. The schedules vary, so check locally for what’s on during your stay.
Port Denarau is on the west coast, a short drive from Nadi by taxi or public bus. You can walk to the port if you are staying in one of the Denarau Island resorts, or jump on the inter-resort shuttle service. Parking is available at the port for a small fee. The Port Denarau shopping mall is open daily. Visit the mall’s official website for the opening times of the individual businesses, and for event details.
