I just loved swimming with dolphins! The boat ride takes you to the middle of ocean, where it stops and you just jump in the water with another one hundred dolphins. Dolphins are curious but very fast - swimming in circles around you. After swimming, we get to a second spot where we get surrounded by thousands dolphins! The view from the boat is surreal - will never forget!

This is the one of the most idyllic destinations on New Zealand's central South Island. The landscape is breathtakingly beautiful during the day, with the intense blue waters of the lake, waving yellow reeds on the shore, green rolling hills and snowy white peaks painting an awesome picture. Being part of a UNESCO Dark Sky Reserve, it's stunning by night too. Visit the Church of the Good Shepherd at sunset for striking photos!

Scenery, scenery, scenery. As the highest mountain in New Zealand, it doesn't get much better than Mount Cook. You definitely get the feeling of being up close and personal with the mountain and the surrounding mountains. We checked out the glacier and did some stunning walks through the national park. We recommend staying at Mt Cook village for a coupld of days to really experience it in depth.

Most people hang around the pier but I suggest you walk away from here in either direction to enjoy the endless stretch of wild beach and sand dunes. The views are fantastic, water, waves, mountains. We were going to swim with the dolphins but it was just a bit chilly when we visited. (Next time.) So instead we went up in the hills and found a pretty lavender farm. The drive is gorgeous.

Well, I wouldn't normally say that a hospital is the first place I want to visit when I'm traveling, but when you need a hospital on the opposite side of the world you want it to be a good one. I was brought by ambulance, spent one night in the ICU and then two more nights in a private room. EXCELLENT medical care, very nice staff. Not a bad room, either.

This is one of the prettiest glaciers we've seen in our travels. It comes down through a tight mountain pass and ends in a rainforest. The tall and beautiful snow-covered Mount Cook stands behind (where Sir Edmond Hilary trained to climb Everest). Walking to the viewing area is not very difficult. Turn around to get to the ocean in minutes. You can do a helicopter flyover too.

This whole church is made of cardboard! After the 2011 earthquake the beautiful old cathedral was left half standing without money to rebuild. So the creative folks used cardboard (like big tubes from wrapping paper) to make a spot that is truly beautiful. Great for a spiritual experience or just seeing innovative architecture.
